Topic: Should I get into Metroid Prime series?

I really love the metroid series being 2d and having that feel of reward finding something unexpected. I even love the demo of the AMR2.

However......I never played the prime series.....and one of the reasons is that its in first person perspective and well I never actually been a fan of FPS games because they focus too much on shooting stuff. While I know that Prime isn't an FPS, I'm still wondering if I should try and get into the series. Then this would also mean that I would have to get prime hunters as well.

Of course Metroid isn't really much on the story part but rather the gameplay is what matters to me atleast. I can easily say that Fusion and the original Metroid are my favorites.

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

If you want to try the series, there is no need to get each and every game for it. I guess the easiest thing would be to find Prime 3 since it is the most recent game, as the Cube games or the Trilogy can be hard to find and expensive.

I got the Trilogy at launch but I never got Hunters. I played the first 2 to completion and a little bit of 3. Super Metroid is still my favorite Metroid but overall I am not a huge Metroid fan.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Yes. Try it, you'll enjoy it I'm guessing

Play it if you want. You try to over complicate everything and I don't know why.

Also don't we have a game recommendations thread?

I can only recommend you to do so.

The Prime series probably has the best and most extensive narrative of all Metroid games. The amount of detail employed is just breathtaking, and due to playing in first-person, the atmosphere feels much deeper, since you see the areas directly from Samus' viewpoint and not as a bystander.
If you can, try to get the first as top priority. The exploration theme employed in Prime 1 is the mmost intense one in the entire series, and also has the most authentic and fascinating ecosystem of all.

And if you end up not liking it, still try to finish, even if just for the sake of just knowing how it ends. It's entirely worth the trouble!

It's difficult for me to recommend the Prime Trilogy, as in spite of all that they do right they are the Metroid games I genuinely, for the most part, don't like. I feel they're too slow in a series I blast through. Atmospherically, I don't believe they're as deep as they're claimed either. Having seen discussions of this series since 2007, I haven't been convinced otherwise. I would half-recommend trying out Metroid Prime Hunters. While it does put more attention to shooting, the game offers plenty to discover and alternate routes to take. I would really suggest discovering the game's story too and really piecing it all together. Knowing the history can add so much more to the impression of a location's atmosphere. Even without that background, I still feel Metroid Prime Hunters creates the most impressive atmospheres in the entire series with its enemy placements, location designs and soundtrack. If you can put aside the fact that it further emphasizes shooting in its multiplayer, doing bot matches can feel like Metroid-lite each time. You explore the arenas for pick-ups and then get to test out your equipment immediately against rivals. Additionally, with seven playable hunters, these arenas can really open up and allow for a lot of strategy.

hell yeah you should try those games! especially when you already love the 2D metroids. prime series is on of the best in gaming history. extremly polished. it gets the feeling of the 2D metroids right and the gameplay is super fun.

the DS prime game is really good, but i hate the controlls. start with the first metroid prime. i think it is the best of the bunch

If you do, get the Wii Trilogy. The first two are good, well 1 is great, but the controls hold it back badly because they try to insist it's not a first person shooter and to back it have these gimped up controls that get you shot up pretty annoyingly in the later parts of the game. YOu can't strafe and shoot without standing there being shot up to use a top button to 'lock' the target before you can do that because they wanted to waste the c-stick for visor switching. The Wii trilogy removes this idiocy and makes it into a real first person shooter.

Yeah, I agree with @tanookisuit. If you're going to get Prime 1 and 2, you definitely should go for the Metroid Prime Trilogy release on the Wii. The Gamecube versions suck in comparison, due largely to their restrictions over how a player can look and aim around. It's not good for exploration and combat with its clunky set up. Go for the Trilogy and that issue is gone. I was very ecstatic when I first played Trilogy finally playing the games with a sense of freedom.

I'm horribly biased but yes.

And even if I wasn't, there's basically nothing else out there like the Metroid Prime games, and they're critically acclaimed and beloved so...yes...there's no reason not to unless first person in general is just intolerable for you in general.
