Umm I dunno, are there games that interest you on it?

Why do you want one?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Reason i want one cause of the classic games and platformers and rpgs.

If you like the games, then go for it.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Are you intentionally being as vague as possible? You can find "classic games and platformers and rpgs" on any system. I dunno, maybe you want to buy a Sega Saturn instead? It has classics and platformers and rpgs.

Generally speaking: Yes, you should buy a PS3. Everyone should. It's a great machine with a great library, especially so when PS1 and PS2 classics are included. It's now at a great price point, both for machine and software. PS+ is also the best value in console gaming on the market today.

But none of that matters if you don't actually care about the games on the PS3.

Well the Wii has those too and through Backwards Compatibility the Wii U has that. So if you want to spend more money than a Wii cost and less than a Wii U cost then I guess the PS3 will work for that. Sounds more like you just want someone to justify you spending a lot of money on a last gen system. I would wait for a price drop personally.

Well, I'd take a look at some of the games available on the system that fit your tastes. If there's plenty, then go for it! You're probably bound to get better reasons. I recall making a thread similar to this one before, and what do you know? I have one now.
I like JRPGs and some other types, and the PS3 has the specific games I'm interested in (like Persona 5 and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD ReMix, for example), so I'd look into its library and see if you're still interested.

Here are a few places that I can be found!

Well you can't get those anywhere else, so PS3 works for that.

It's cheap, has plenty of classic games that you can find on PSN, it's own library of great games and it's still getting big new titles like Mortal Kombat X so definitely go for it. I plan on sticking with mine for a long while yet since it's easily a better value than any of the current gen systems.

Short answer: Yes
Long Answer: Yes yes yes!!!

Seriously, the PSOne classic line up alone will give you most of the platformers and RPGs you'll need at a much better price than working discs you could track down would. And if you have the discs? B/c with PS1 games, with infinite digital memory cards. As for retail games, there's Puppeteer, Ni no Kuni, Sly, Ratchet & Clank, and plenty of others, most of which are a decent price these days. My only warning is that a lot of the retail RPGs can be excessively niche - if you want lots of obtuse mechanics that may or may not gel with eachother, though, you'll be in heaven...

There are also lots of good PSN games that probably won't appear on Nintendo platforms anytime soon, like The Unfinished Swan, Limbo, and the Pixeljunk games, to name a few.

Yeah, this pretty much.

Here's what the cost boils down to:

PS3 500GB: $270 bundled with a game. Current choices are The Last of Us, Destiny, and Lego Hobbit. Think the GTAV one is sold out. You can get a PS3 12GB for $200, but I wouldn't recommend it. 12GB is not enough space for game installs, patches, DLC, PS1/PS2 classics, etc.
Extra controller: $55 bundled with another game. Choices are God of War Saga (5 games in 1) or Infamous Collection (2 better games in 1). This is a great value. You're basically getting the games for free.
HD repacks of games: $20 each. This will cover your platformers and classics for sure. Things like the Sly Cooper, Racket & Clank, and Jak & Daxter collections are tons of content for a great price. There's also a few RPG repacks like Tales of Symphonia Chronicles and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD. Those are $20 each as well.
PS+ subscription: $60/yr. This will cover you for usually 3 games per month free to download and keep, as long as you keep your subscription. This is potentially hundreds of dollars of savings per year.

Verdict: Cheaper than a current gen system, even with all the frills added and a few games thrown in, plus access to 20 years worth of software. I would honestly recommend a PS3 over a PS4.

I'll get one at some point! Ni No Kuni, Valkyrie Chronicles, Katherine, Journey and the HD remakes of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are enough in themselves. That's before the more mainstream exclusives are factored in.

I wouldn't call Journey a game to get the PS3 for. It's an interactive movie where you basically just walk forward for an hour or so.

I don't care for many of the mainstream PS3 games and I still have over a hundred games for it. So it's definitely worth getting. Just don't get it for the platformers. There aren't that many for it and they're not of Nintendo quality.

I'm thinking of getting one for Persona 5
