So part of me was thinking Mistwalkers next game could be a Wii U exclusive after that insider revealed Nintendo have tied up a couple more 3rd party exclusives, and their last game was for Wii, but... nope, it's on phones.
Some news from the Famitsu interview :
-Will release in September.
-Freemium. The game is balanced so that the scenario is beatable without having to spend money.
-Uematsu is composing 20 tracks.
-Sakaguchi is planning some sort of collaboration with other game creators.
-Would like to make a console version in the future if given the opportunity.
For everyone that gets angry when we discuss sales charts... THIS is why we discuss is so much. The dedicated gaming industry in Japan is all but dead. Mobile rules there and it's not changing anytime soon. Now I like gaming on a mobile or tablet if the game is right, but even I don't want to see the giants of console gaming move everything to mobile
"Freemium" and "RPG" are two words that should never go together. I don't care if it's balanced so you can get through it without paying, it still usually entails some bullcrap somewhere, because that's too expensive a game to just give away. At least with a multiplayer-type game, they can usilize social pressures to get people to pay without necessarily ruining the game.
Well, like they don't have enough of those ripoffs, right?
I mean, c'mon, Sakaguchi! Do you see yourself in that kind of position as a developer? Making "freemium" games for mobiles s suddenly the best you can do?

Well putting it on smartphones and giving a freemium model clearly shows the project just wants to make as money as possible. Even if it were on a console with no microtransactions, I probably still wouldn't enjoy a game which only wanted to make as money as possible.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
I bet Mistwalker will make more off this game than if they made a game on one of the Big 3's hardware.
There's a good chance but good games bomb all the time on iOS too. Or worse, are played by a lot of people but make little money because they had dignity for their f2p options. Like I think there was some game recently that was downloaded like a 1/4 of a million times and made literally 12,000 bucks. I hate when people pretend mobile gaming is somehow less of a risk than console gaming when most games on consoles anymore are downloadable anyway (read: not the risk of ridiculous AAA retail titles).
The fact that they have ports in mind means this at least has some hope.
