Hyperkin will be having a showing at MGC, where they announced it last year, in the morning. Fingers crossed for incoming release dates, and any last minute details of the R5.
If you missed Hyperkin's showing at MGC, don't worry! Here's a video for ya, courtesy of Video Game Rescue.
Again, they haven't mentioned the exact release date. However, they're going into the production phase, meaning that RetroN 5 is to be released in the next 30 days.
Also, I'm glad to hear that SNES games supporting the multitap won't longer require you to own the peripheral. All you need to own for a 4 player Super Bomberman match is 4 controllers. Each player has a choice of a SNES controller, a Genesis controller, a NES controller or a RetroN 5 Wireless controller.
Thanks for posting! Kind of wished we had an actual release week or something in stone, but my hype levels are still strong. Just really tired of the delays and vague release windows. I'm pretty sure there's not more that could go wrong, though.

Too long; Didn't watch version of the videos for impatient ones.
Retron 5 coming out within 30 days, guaranteed. Retron 5 are on boats as I'm typing. There are actual retail Retron 5's in retail boxing ready to be sold, not a myth. The hardware and firmware are 100% finished.
Mix and match controllers for multiplayer, even for 4 player games.
The Retron 5 will have customizable profiles and instant loading times.
The lag some people had with the controllers has been minimized to negligible levels.
The new Retron x86 will be designed to play DOS games. You can play games from 1986-1999.
Designed like the computers of old, Vic-20 in particular.
HDMI out, HD resolutions.
The system also doubles as a low-end Linux computer.
The x86 is supposed to come out this fall, at $99.
The price has been raised now. It's gone up from $100 to about $140. For those who pre-ordered, depending on where you did, you should still only have to pay $100.
@8BitSamurai - I can live with $140. That's still infinitely cheaper than the other ridiculously priced next gen systems. I just hope I can find one in a store and not have to order it online.
also, I'm going to have to buy a USB to SD card reader dongle thingy because not a single computer in my possession has an SD card reader (crazy, I know).

I think Hyperkin will have a store locator up on their website when the Retron 5 finally launches.
Funstock seems to be open for pre orders in the UK now again, still don't know of a specific release date though hopefully this is a sign its coming soon.

Last time I checked (about a week or two ago), they had sold out, so it's good to see they have some in stock.
My only concern is that it'll be shipped from America, and will probably come with an American plug. I'm sure I'd be able to use a common plug, but it's a bit of a hassle. The Q&A section has a question about this very thing, and to the retailer's best knowledge, it'll ship with a multi-adaptor for both regions.
The price (£89.99 - $151) is right as well - and with talk earlier in the thread about the cost going up, I hope they can honour the preorders at these prices. During the last two weeks, when I was trying to find a place that still offered pre-orders, I saw some were priced at about £120.
[EDIT] Well, apparently, they are out of stock. It'd be nice if they had some sort of signifier on the store page on whether it is sold out or not - I proceeded to checkout, and that was where funstock decided to tell me the product is unavailable...
In the video, it is explained that, basically, demand for the console outstripped supply - they could fulfill American preorders alone, but wanted an international release, and so held off until they have enough consoles.
...still can't find a place to preorder it from...
Hyperkin's website is now listing the Retron 5 for $140 and the controllers for $40. Still no release date, it seems very very unlikely we will be getting it in the "guaranteed" within 12 days from now window.
Where my friends and I usually get stupid:

IGN plays the R5. Still probably not coming out this spring, IGN's unit isn't even from a final production run. Are they waiting for Half-Life 3 and The Last Guardian to come out so they can launch aside those?
yeah after reading and watching both of the above, I'm just not sure it does what I want - which is playing the carts as carts. Like the dude with save data issues Gameboy-side - and the fact that Retron themselves make a point to say "WE CAN RECEIVE SAVED DATA FROM GAMEBOY ADVANCE GAMES" or something similar on their site - it's just duping a quick rom. It's a cool idea - but after watching the guy's copy of Minish Cap take close to a minute to load up... not so sure I'm on board.
That and the controller is just the worst thing ever conceived. 5 dollar bargain-basement usb controllers are 100x as capable... Mortified by that thing

Systems are supposed to be shipping out to retailers, who can release it in a week or so. I highly doubt it, and I'll believe it when I see it. I think "July", "October", "December", "Q1", "April", "Within 30 days guaranteed", and "$99" have displayed Hyperkin's trustworthiness quite well.
