I'm surprised there's not a topic here for this already. Surely I can't be the only one here spending way too much time with this game.

It's really pretty wonderful stuff. The voice acting is top notch, and the freedom is about as much as you can ever hope for in a video game. I'm loving this. I've barely touched the main quest (at least, I don't think I have) and I've had dozens of great little missions and things to do. Spend any time wandering around and you'll end up suckered into some errand or other. And they're all. So much. Fun.

Anyone else pick this up yet?

Hmm... I might rent the game to see what the hub bub is all about. Then again it could be the fact that Rockstar spent almost 3 times more money on the marketing than developing the game.

However... it can surprise me, kinda like whole Fallout 3 did. I won't know without playing it...

When everyone was buzzing about it, I just figured "Yeah, yeah...sandbox with a cowboy hat."

But then certain friends of mine were raving about it as well...and these are folks whose opinions carry a lot of weight with me. I ended up giving it a shot, and I have to say, it really hits the ground running. It's not one of those "it really picks up ten hours in" games (lookin' at you, Monster Hunter...); you've got a lot at your disposal right away, and the writing is surprisingly decent. I'm having a blast.

I definitely suggest giving it a shot.

I wish R* would bring Red Dead Redemption to the PC. But then again, it might end up being poorly optimized like GTA IV.

hmm...

Ok, then again I really wanted to fall in love with Monster Hunter 3, like an addict on WOW. But I've barely played and I'm hellishly behind and realize that there's games like 3D Dot Game Heroes and No More Heroes 2 that demand my loving.

But yeah, I could go and rent it and see what's up with it.

I've been playing the hell out of this too, CB. And i do the same thing, i barely get around to playing actual missions, always to distracted by the random encounters and just riding across the countryside.

A very awesome game. I was a huge fan of Gun (bought it for both Xbox classic and 360, and played through it over a dozen times), but there just wasn't that much to do in that game. RDR is everything i wanted Gun to be, plus that extra R* polish (they sure as hell should know how to nail this genre by now!).

Between SMG2 and RDR, i haven't played barely anything else in weeks. I haven't even popped Alan Wake yet (a game i bought the 360 for way back in '06) since RDR has totally possessed my 360, except for the 20 minutes i put in on Doom II (released last week for XBLA; one of my fave-all-timers).

It's an awesome game. One of the best parts is tracking down the Easter eggs such as the Donkey Women or the bird people. Oh, and accidentally shooting my horse in the back of the head while riding him.

From what I've played so far - I think I'm over halfway into the campaign - the game sure is great. The side-stuff you can do (including some of the challenges) tends to get a tad bit boring after doing it so often, but the main campaign and unique sidequests are quite fun. I haven't touched multiplayer yet.

Got side-tracked by ModNation Racers and Half-Life 2's Mac release though, but I expect to pick this one up again soonish.

Multiplayer is sweet as well, though i've barely played that either. The Free Roam mode alone is excellent, i don't even care about any of the other modes.

BTW, my gamertag is "the Shpydar" (shock!) if anyone wants to throw out friend requests. I have the viral achievement (the Kill a Rockstar one), so if you need it you can blow my head off if you see me. =)

I'll get another chance to play it again someday.
Otherwise I'm meh, on the whole western games.

Just for you.

Is anyone out there playing as an evil character? I'm definitely gravitating toward being good. The only evil stuff I've done has been to unlock achievements, and in firefights where I had trouble telling the robbers from the victims. Whoops!

My 360 died one time too many, so I threw it under the stairs, swearing I'd never touch it again. Red Read Redemption is the only game since then that has made me question that decision. If a PC version isn't announced soon, I may have to dig the stupid thing out. :/

Want this game!

I'm about halfway through the game, I think my favourite sequence so far is the train robbery where you get throwing knives. Favourite weapon is the semi-auto shotgun
I hate cougars, they killed my horse, so I had to drop $750 for my horse back

I tend to go for good guy as well. If I do have to do anything bad that bandana sure comes in handy. "Look! That guy looks like John Marsten, but he's wearing a bandana, so it can't be him!"

Now that's just silly. Why pay for horses if you can get them for free! I've had a few horses die on me on the way via accident or mauling, and I've never dropped a cent on replacements. Easiest thing to do is to nab one from a random guy riding along the countryside. I tend to somewhat dislike those horses, so after that I just go looking to wrangle a wild horse, preferably a black stallion. Horse hunting can be good fun.

I'm absolutely loving this game. I'm not reading any other comments cos I don't want to break my illusion of being a cowboy! I'm only about 4 hours into the single player and don't wan't any spoilers. The multiplayer is also awesome!

I have to admit I've spent waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time hunting in the game. Although I do have to say I loved the sickness of a few stranger missions like "Don't Judge Me" and "Flowers for the Lady". If you've played those, you'll remember them.

Yup, I definitely think Redemption is the best western game thus far. Everything about the game is absolutely top-notch; the voice acting is brilliant, the visuals are gorgeous, the game is really fun, and the random events that occur are simply amazing. I walked out of my house and I saw a women getting stabbed so I shot the dude in the face. I also ran past a crying women sitting beside a dead body, then she totally shot herself. Amazing, amazing stuff.

Definitely a must-buy.
