Ive been thinking about making this thread for awhile, and the recent update on PS3 allowing Ad Hoc play over the internet through the PS3 secured my idea of making the thread. This way we can share PSN IDs (also available in PS3 Thread) but for PSP and get some multiplayer online. Also with PSP Minis and steady PSP releases on the PSN Store this could be a good place to discuss the greatness/crapiness of the games.
The games I now have that either have Ad Hoc or Infastructure are.....
Soul Calibur
Midway Arcade Classics (Mortal Kombat 1-3)
Loco Roco

Id really like to get some Soul Calibur Ad Hoc time in as I just bought the game Friday.

My PSP ID is the same as PS3 crossed23

Quick question. If I got myself a PSP (an old one), how exactly would I download PS1 classics on it? Thanks

connect to PlayStation Network and buy them from the Store there... you would need a Credit Card or a Prepaid PSN Card for that...

@nintendork - keep in mind, if you buy an old PSP you'll need to pick up some memory too....I'd recommend a 2gb stick minimum so you won't have to worry about multi-disc games like FF7 not quite fitting.

and stick to SanDisk-branded memory, Sony ones are not as good, fast, reliable or cheap as SanDisk... 4 or 8 GB ones are quite cheap today...

PS: I think this should be merged with the PS3 thread into a Sony thread or something, the appeal of both the PSP and PS3 increases with each other...

@DarkG..... With the new AdHoc connection it will be a Lot easier to do it here, as well not confust the PSP titles (quite a few new one droppin every week on PSN) with PSN titles. I think the PSP finally desrves its own thread here in OG as well lol. I know it wont have the traffic as the XBOX or PS3 thread but it will be easier to get up with eachother here to play some games online scheduled.

Im sure Corbie won't mind having a PSP Thread either!

OK, thanks. I just heard somewhere that you would need a PS3 to download them, as well.

Nope, you don't need a PS3 for anything PSP-related, I know Sony likes to treat their customers as bad as possible, but they are more intelligent than that lol

Only thing is, if you have a PS3, you can play those PSOne Classics on it too...

Here's the steps in brief:

First off, make sure you download the latest filmware update. Go to the Home menu, select the first tab, and the first option should say "System Update". Press X. Select "update via Internet", then select your wireless connection. If there is any new filmware, it'll let you know. Press X. It should download automatocally.

Once you have your new Filmware, Go to the Home menu, go all the way to the right, go down to the icon that says "Playstation Store", then press X. Then once you're in the store, go to the option that says "PSOne Classics", and press X. Once you're there, go to the PSOne game you want and press X. Then you'll be given the option to add it to the cart or to buy it now. If you add it to the cart, you can add more games. If that's all you want, click "Buy Now". If you don't have nough funds, you'll be asked to add some. Have a credit card handy if you haven't already added your information. Once you've purchased it, you'll finally be given the option to download it. Click on that option, then select "yes"(If that step is required, my memory's fuzzy on that particular part). Once it's done downloading, you'll finally have your PSOne Classic. Go back to the Home menu, go to the Game tab, then go all the way to the bottom and select the icon that looks like a Memory stick. It should display all the downloadable games you've purchased from newest to oldest. Select the game you just downloaded. You are now playing your PSOne Classic...I'll stop there.

If you get stuck in any area or need any clarifying, need to know how to sound out any of those words, just let me know.

I badly want a Go but also badly want $250. I'll probably pick one up when it inevitably drops in price and I've sold my PS3. I need to hold onto Symphony of the Night somehow, and I want to try Darkstalkers, Jeanne d'Arc, and Street Fighter Alpha Max 3 among a bunch of other strategy games and fighting games that the PSP seems to have no end of.

get a normal PSP, don't let Sony rip you off with a Go... a PSP-3000 is cheaper and the games are cheaper too , a thousand times better

I like my PSP pretty well. (well it ain't mine, but whatever) My favorite game is Namco Museum Battle Collection. Great little compliation for only 20 bucks. (well, that's how much I got it for)

I'll make my own decisions, thanks for your concern. As I said, I'll wait for it to go down in price. Downloadable games and smaller console size are ideal for portability.

I'm thinking f getting one but don't have a PS3 so does all games have Wi-fi play or just AD-HOC. (which is a bad design choice )

also which PSP is the best because even though i hate the design and price the GO is looking pretty good.

the best one would be a PSP-3000, since it can do everything the other ones do (play games from memory Stick, from UMD, and everything else), and is the most recent design of the worthy PSPs...

Not all games have online play, only some of them... if you hate the design and price of the Go stay away from it, it has less capabilities than the normal PSP-2000 and 3000

thats the only thing that kinda keeps me away from the PSP most DS games have local and online so why does'nt the more powerful PSP do both.

also a rational fair explanation which is the better handheld system to get, i've had a DS but only played a PSP factor in everything like games Hardware and online services.

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection on the DS has always worked better for me than the PlayStation Network on my PSP... faster downloads (DSi vs PSP-2000), better signal, lag-less multi-player on NWFC...

Overall, PSP graphics are somewhat better, but there's not much of a resolution or screen size difference for it to be an important factor... God of War CoO, one of the best looking PSP games is a very mediocre game, it doesn't last long and is quite easy to finish even if you are new to the franchise...

Game selection on DS is a lot higher, there's simmply loads of games on DS that are worth playing, and a load more to come, while there are only a handful on PSP... also, blame developers for not having PSN connection on all PSP games, it's their fault afterall...

I currently have a Launch-day DSi and a PSP-2000 God of War Edition, and the DSi is simply the most fun of them... sure there are some good games on PSP worth playing (Mega Man Powered Up being my favorite so far), but not as many as on DS... if I could only get 1, I would get a DSi, the console I've had the most fun with (proof of that is that's the one I've bought the most games for lol)

so between the 1000 and 3000 which would you say get. The 1000 is $80 and that would still give me enough for some games and get a DSi summer next year.

the problem with the 1000 is that it's quite big and has some flaws, like low battery life and UMD drive problems... so I would get a 2000 or 3000... you should be able to get either for cheap either used or new... or get a DSi now and wait for cheaper PSP-3000, that could be an even better option then
