Wait... hold on a frigging second. How would you play Vita games that rely on the touchscreen/rear pad controls with that thing? This does not make sense at all, 'cause that's what the Vita is all about.

You can't. They've said that every Vita game based on touch will not be available/playable on the PSV TV.

Interesting. So you're telling me that 9/10 games for the Vita will be unplayable on the PSV TV? If that's the case, then I seriously don't get what they're trying to gain by this.

I would assume this would be fixed by dualshock 4. (Which is being supported later hence we gotta go back and patch the gimmick from these to be optional or to the PS4 touchpad.)

The advantage they have is the majority of people don't even know the Vita exists and won't be missing anything they don't know of. Only game that I can think of which will be truly impossible is Murasaki Baby.

The Ps4 remote play is the biggest appeal IMO.

Its essential somewhat of an inverse of the Wii U concept. Wii U is like stream anywhere in the house and Sony has that based coverd by the Vita. (pretty sure Vita can stream PS4 games away from home as well. This is like you Have one PS4 so might as well buy these cheap boxes that pretty much makes every TV a PS4 by proxy.

This also expands the PlayStation eco-system alot if this hits the states this fall. I plan to get one and could easily see myself grabbing an extra one for a family member as a Christmas gift.

Despite a few games not working this is obviously the cheapest way get a console that isn't the Wii. This is a pretty calculated move so when parents come in too game stores and ask what's the best bang for your buck employees will probably pick the Vita TV and some games. (Gamestop has become incredibly pro Sony as of late).

Already confirmed that in a update it will be able to use dualshock 4 which comes with a touchpad.

That so? Then why are they even bothering with the Dualshock 3 bundle? And how would it allow people to play most of the Vita games with Dualshock 4, but not the regular D3 controller?

I get that the other stuff is sorta appealing to Sony users, but is this thing gonna play Vita games on the big screen or what?

Was never all that interested in the vita, but vita TV I could definitely go for that PSone classics, PSP titles and vita games for the price of an ouya sounds like a bargain to me.

Huge difference there.

Onlive is online streaming.

The PSV TV uses a connection between the Ps4 and itself to stream (kind of like WiiU & the GamePad). You need a Ps4 to stream Ps4 games from what I understand.

What's great about it is that for a budget price you can essentially get a "second Ps4" that also plays Vita titles in your home.

Blast

Okay... GameInformer released an article talking about this. The writer of the article, Mike Futter, said this in the opinion part of the article:
"Whenever a new gaming hardware device is introduced, I ask myself one question: "Who is this for?" In the case of the Vita TV, I'm not sure. There are a number of reasons that it hasn't been announced yet for the West, including a mismatch between market desires and product.

Sony, a Japanese company, is launching PlayStation 4 later in its home territory than in the West. There is room for the Vita TV this fall in Japan, but Sony would be foolish to introduce it in the West this year (if it is planned at all).

The Vita TV would compete for mindshare with the PlayStation 4, even though they are devices with different intent. It would also confuse those outside the core (read: parents) who will only know to ask for "the new PlayStation" when walking into a retailer this holiday season.

I don't expect the demand for a device at that price point to play PSP and Vita games on the TV exists in enough volume in the United States to warrant release. Sony's Gaikai service could conceivably fill the same role here.
Sony has created a problem for itself with the Vita TV. Either it pushes the hardware with developers, forcing them to make a choice between using the Vita's baked-in features (touch screens, gyroscopic control) and designing for universal play, or allows the Vita TV to exist merely as an afterthought. The marquee Vita game of the fall, Tearaway, is a perfect example of the conundrum Sony has just created."

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

The only reason I can think of is so you don't have to move the PS4 between rooms, personally I'd just keep it in one room but this might be handy for some people I guess.

it might be handy for some people but is it worth 99$ if you already have a ps4?
becausse i dont think it will be able to stream games for multiple users at the same time.

You need a Ps4 to stream the Ps4 titles to another TV, yes.

Makes sense to me. Would be really nice to have a Ps4 in the living room and the PSV TV in the bedroom so that I can play the Ps4 in bed as well. That's one of the best features of the WiiU IMO.

Nice to see they're finally catching up to the Super Game Boy.

Well, now I have a cost-effective way to play the PSVita... I might just have to see about this one! It actually seems pretty neat.

This announcement is super cool, but there are a lot of questions.

  • Video Streaming? This could be a "Roku killer" for many people, offering video streaming and decent gaming on a budget. I'm assuming that Vita TV will have essentially the same OS and online features as Vita - but it's only an assumption so far.
  • Compatibility? Sony has been very slow to make PSP/PSOne Classics compatible with Vita already, and this box also won't have touch-screen controls so game selection might be a problem. Splitting the Vita userbase due to different control schemes is a pretty big (ie: BAD) deal too - hopefully this goes away when the PS4 controllers are released?
  • Video Resolution? Is this another case of PSP TV-out support, where games gets severe letter boxing when viewed on the TV? Might depend on the game format... but if Vita games only use 1/3 of the screen like old PSP games did that would be much less appealing.

I certainly think there is an audience for this device. Anyone with multiple TVs who wants to be able to stream content and/or access games in different locations might find $100 to be a deal. Heck, I'd strongly consider buying one.

You're forgetting about the part where you can play Vita games and some PSP games to make it worth $100. Streaming PS4 is an Extra feature.

Huh... Haven't people said that (saddly) most of the interesting games on the vita are old games and ports? That means that with a PS3 (which most people interested will already have) you can do this and watch movies.

Oh well. It's not like it's the first time Sony makes weird systems for Japan. Let's see how it does this time.

I don't agree with that, but even if I did, it's still way cheaper to go with the Vita TV. The Vita TV is $50-$100 cheaper than the PS3, and a lot of Vita games are cheaper than their console counterparts. This looks like it's meant to be a budget/casual console, that will also hopefully boost Vita game sales and support.

How exactly does this save the vita? You still have to pay $200 for the handheld console
