Topic: PS3 fat (60 GB) model high pitch hummin noise

Hello everyone!

SO I bought a PS3 FAT 60 GB and when I play for more than 15 minutes I get this humming noise.

Here is a video I made. If you listen closely you can hear it. I have cleaned the PS3, Changed the thermal paste and changed the fan with a new one again with 19 blades.

It is still making the same little noise.

If anyone can help me or tell me if it is normal. The PS3 is not overheating and I can play many hours on it. God of War 3 for example.

Donate it to an opera. Maybe it'll become the star of its own show?

Sadly I'm in no position to play videos right now, let alone with volume on so I can only offer little help.

Though if you can play on it for extended periods of time and aren't too distracted by the sound, then I wouldn't worry too much about it. All fans give off sound anyway. Maybe it's something with its fans.

@1UP_MARIO Ah ok. I knew the PS3 fat is loud when playing on it but I did not know that the humming is ok as well. Damn that 2006 tech is confusing

I wonder how PS4 pro and Xbox One X hold up in this matter.

@Zuljaras I don’t know about the pro or Xbox but the PS4 gets loud like a hoover

@1UP_MARIO Haha damn. I wanted to buy one for my birthday so I could play God of War and the upcoming Spider-Arkham

@1UP_MARIO Haha! I put my PS3 behind the TV when there is no sound I can still hear it humming from the other side of the room but it helps.

A wonderful workaround is to surround the console with speakers around 5 of them and the issue will be very minimal!

And on the other hand my Xbox 360 E can't be heard. It is so silent! Even after hours of play.

@Zuljaras the launch ps4s an get target loud but the slim and pro models are fine. I've had all 3 and the newer ones aew no where near as loud as the original used to be.

Turns out I have to change the thermal paste under the heat spreaders(plates) as well but it is tricky as I might destroy the chips.

Well it is worth the risk.
