Topic: PS3

I'm really considering buying a ps3 slim. I mean its an amazing system blu-ray, ps3 games, netflix, ps1 games, playstation home, and eventually sony is coming out with a ps2 emulator for the slim. But I have a Wii and its just not that cool anymore. The only con about the playstation 3 is not many of my friends have one but some are migrating to them (they all have 360s). But it looks amazing. Could you please provide pros, cons, comments, etc.

I got one in Novermber and have played it nonstop ever since, neglecting my poor Wii almost entirely (Little King's Story and NSMBWii are still in their wrapping, I'm slightly ashamed to say). It's a great piece of kit with some fabulous exclusives (Uncharted 2, LittleBigPlanet, Demon's Souls, God of War 3 [forthcoming]), the only drawback being that some multiplatform games turn out better on 360 than on PS3 because PS3 is such a blueberry to code for (e.g., Bayonetta, although this has now been patched and works fine). Still, PS3 is much less likely to breakdown than 360, which is a big plus. I'd say go for it, and hopefully catch you online one day.

The PS3 is a much better system compared to the Xbox 360 when it comes to exclusive games, hardware, and online. The PS3 has hardly any techincal problems while the Xbox 360 has techincal problems galore. The PS3 is an awesome system, you won't regret buying it.

Just remember that when you get one, you won't find reason to get a 360. Whichever one you pick you'll have to stick with, so get which one you believe you'll enjoy more than the other. They both have great games and are worth getting, although PS3 doesn't have as good online, and the community is much smaller. Oh, and 360's don't have nearly as many technical problems anymore. Also, 360 has Netflix, and the Wii will have it soon, so don't count it as a plus. Blu-ray is pretty much the same thing as DVD, from what I've seen anyway. Just choose which one that you think you would have more fun with.

Whether or not the exclusive games are better depends on the buyer. The 360 has many exclusives like the PS3 but it depends on your preferences. Do some research first before buying if you are a particular fan of certain exclusives.

I speak from a neutral perspective because I am neither a PS3 or 360 fan, but I have heard many complaints about both. While the 360 may have been notorious for the Red Ring of Death, it's not as bad anymore and Microsoft even offers an extended warranty for those kinds of problems. The PS3's biggest problems are prices of certain games and very little PS2 backwards compatibility.

The biggest problem I've had with Sony is their lousy customer service when I owned a PS2. They took too long to respond and sent me running in circles to the point that my problems were never solved. I can't guarantee that this may happen to you, but you should keep this is mind. As for Microsoft, well I don't really know much about the customer service for the 360.

@lz: The customer service is quick and easy. I've had to send in two Xbox 360's, so I'm glad it is. The first box that the sent it back in had styrofoam that the system fitted perfectly in, so when I needed to repair my second one, which was the limited edition Halo 3 one, I used that.
Choose what you want. You'll be happy either way.

I would make my decision based on which exclusive games I want to play. Take a good look at the exclusives for both systems and go with the one you think you'll play the most.

As for your friends owning 360s, it shouldn't really matter. My friends all have PS3s but I rarely play with them since they're more into sports games. When I play online it's with strangers or people I've met here on NL & YouTube.

If you get a PS3 I guarantee you won't regret it.
moomoo commented there that PS3 online isn't that good and there isn't that big of a Community. Well that is the big Lie that 360 owners try to spread (or maybe its to try to convince themselves). PS3 online is excellent and its Free. I have all 3 Consoles and PS3 kicks ass. Plus you can get lots of older games now at a reasonable price. Buy one Dude.

Both the 360 and the PS3 are good systems, and it's best to ignore the foolish fanboys telling you otherwise about either If your friends have 360s that might be motivation to go that route, but both are great in their own ways.

I owned a 360 back in 2006/2007 but it only lasted 6 months before it flaked out and died (i treated it well). Before 2009 I wouldn't have bought a PS3 but now there are a handful of exclusives that rank better than almost anything else. The best games on the Xbox for 2009 are almost all multi platform titles. This year is shaping up to be a better year for the Xbox but I'm sure the PS3 has just as many good titles lined up. Although I do like some of the 360 exclusives like Mass Effect I would also buy a PS3 due to Bluray, more reliability, free online play, more open hardware, built in wifi and probably some other reasons. Xbox Live Arcade is still the best game downloading service out there but I could live without it.

@bestbuck: I never said it wasn't that good. I said it wasn't as good as Xbox Live. It's still a great online service, and you don't have to pay for it, which is a plus.

ps3s are better than 360s. better features and more exclusives. you wont regret getting one!

Having purchased a few movies (all of them Star Trek movies but w/e), I don't see how I would every buy or rent another DVD again.

Well not necessarily, but more quality exclusives, means the more reason to own the console.

I've abstained from getting a PS3 due to the lack of interesting games.
