If you haven't owned a PS2 before than now is the best time to get one. With the huge library of games available I am sure that you will find something to enjoy. I still have a bunch of my PS2 games I just can't play them cause I dont have the system anymore. IMO the PS2 is the second best console ever right after the SNES. And yes that is a really good deal. I know from GS a refurbished PS2 goes for $50.
Also don't forget that with a PS2 you also have access to an awesome Playstation library as well.
I think you should just get something else altogether. Do you have a Wii(U) or (3)DS? I usually try to max out my newest consoles with newer games and such. That's usually the better choice IMO.
I already own a Zelda 3DS (and by default OoT3D). That's why I'm asking what the better choices are: I want to have enough to purchase the 3DS games I want as well.

Well, you could just get MGS3 for 3DS with a CPP(if you don't already hsve one), and it wouldn't be outdated before you get it. Then, just get NFS: Most Wanted U and you're set.

I think the authentic experience was better than the one on 3DS. Also, I don't have a Wii U. Again, I just wanted something heap and new (so not Nintendo).
Nintendo always seemed to get more exclusives back in the day, mortal kombat deadly alliance got blaze for the gamecube version, mortal kombat deception had goro and shao kahn for the game cube version, mortal kombat armageddon got Khameleon on the wii version, rampage got a nice few extra monsters in the wii version, all of these games were on the ps2 as well but without these exclusives.
The PS2 is super duper. Everyone should have one because its game library is rather fantastic.
If you like JRPGs I would fully recommend Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts Covenant. Covenant is brilliant and wacky but is a direct sequel, so get the most out of the story I would also play the first one.
Persona 4 is marvelous, as is Dragon Quest VIII. Final Fantasy X and XII are also excellent. Lots and lots of games to choose from.
PS2 has some fantastic games and lots of them are fairly cheap these days, so I'd say go for it! I recommend Klonoa 2, Persona 4, both the Katamari games, and if you haven't got a Dreamcast there's a great two-disc set of Space Channel 5 pts. 1 & 2!

I say get the Star Wars Battlefront 2 game for sure. Metal Arms Glitch in the System, Metal Gear Solid 2, Beyond Good and Evil(these multiplats were always so much harder to find for GCN), Rayman 3.
