Topic: PS2: DVD playback is green

My Playstation 2 Slim (SCPH-7004) is hooked up to the television via RGB scart cable. I just tried to watch a DVD movie and surprise! Everything is green monochrome!

What is that? ???

In every game the colours are normal. Only DVD movies are affected. Is this some kind of copy protection for DVDs and is there any way around it? I mean another way other than using the cheap standard video cable which was in the box?

I can't believe that Sony doesn't allow DVD playback in good quality. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the quick google search.
What is a composite cable? Is this the cable that is shipped with the console? With three cinch connectors? Two red/white for audio and one yellow for video?

@Omega Yep, red-white-yellow are composite cables.

If everything is green, it could be you're using an NTSC device on an PAL TV or vice-versa. The different input signals can cause colour tinting (usually green) to occur, especially on older TVs which aren't compatible across regions. It happened to me when I first went to the UK. Check if your TV, PS2 or even the DVDs you're playing are from different regions.

@HolyMackerel: Thanks. My TV, the console and the DVDs are all PAL. I bought them in germany.

I could use the composite cable to solve the colour problem.
The downside is that the video quality with such a cable is much lower than that compared to an RGB cable. And I don't want to always change the cables depending on if I want to play games or watch DVD movies.

I thought there is an easy way to get the colours right when using the RGB cable. Without having to pay for a new cable. But it seems there isn't one?

Have you changed to component output in the system menu? Navigate to video output and select component. That might solve it.

Is your PS2 modchipped? Some can incorrectly modify the YPbPr colour space for PSX and DVD output colouring them green.

This is a good trick actually. It's still the blurry picture quality caused by the composite signal. But at least I can switch between composite/RGB in the system menu and don't have to change the cables all the time. That's good enough for now. Thank you very much.

I think my PS2 doesn't work with DVD film.

Main Final Fantasy & Quest/Shinobi Team fan...but I do like many SEGA games and a few Nintendo games.

I can be cute if I want to be, but I choose not to...as it's not my style.
