Topic: Pledge Your Allegiance: Console or Handheld?

Lately it's handhelds, but it really depends on the mood. I haven't touched a console in weeks, but then again I have spent the last months of 2014 playing just on WiiU without ever touching the 3DS.
Generally speaking, I lean more towards handhelds because I like to play in bed or on the toilet. I don't have a sofa, and that's probably another reason why I usually go for handheld rathen than console.
Surprisingly, I find it hard to play while travelling. Last time I went to the US I brought my 3DS with me, thinking with all the 10 hour flights and train rides I would have had enough time to clear my entire backlog, but I didn't manage to play one single game.

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

Console, hands down. Big screen. Surround sound. People can sit down and watch/play and you can make a bit of a social time out of it.

I do play on handheld though, but not as much as I used to. Both have excellent games.

I have a dual citizenship to nintendo. I cannot choose one over the other. I love both equally.

I own both but I'm a console gamer. I love a big screen and I don't want to sit hunched over on a handheld any longer than I have to.

I play my 3DS way more than my Wii, but only because I like playing in private and not letting people see just how much I play games. If I lived on my own I'm sure I'd play on a console a lot more than I do, but since portability means I can be more discreet in my gaming habits I favor it a lot more.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Handheld. The comfort and convenience that comes with portability leads to me using them a lot more.

Moreover, handhelds are increasingly experimenting with different control and display ideas. That, combined with them attracting a LOT of Japanese interest, tends to result in them getting games that almost never come to home consoles, like hardcore dungeon crawlers and adventure games.

I highly enjoy both, but I've heavily gravitated towards handhelds in the past few years due to convenience. Lately, I've been getting myself acquainted with the Dragon Quest series on my tablet (beat IV, & am working on V), and am loving them.

Still try to play a console game or two a year, though (played InFamous & RDR last year, and they were both fantastic).

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

I prefer consoles solely because I get cramps if play the 3ds too long, and I don't like playing short bursts. Which is exactly why I haven't bought one of my favourite franchises/MH4U yet My hands are very important in my line of work, so... And yeah, I generally do prefer the games on my Wii U actually.

I can't even remember the last time I sat down and played on a home console. I'm only ever playing on the 3DS or my phone now. Much more convenient, personal, easier to relax with, I can take it with me if I have to go somewhere while in the middle of an important part and the games I get are plenty addictive enough that I don't miss the home console offerings much. As much as I want to play Splatoon, there's still a good chance I'll put off getting a Wii U again and get a Vita instead.

Plus, I've realized that home consoles just aren't that much fun without the social aspect. These days most of the console gaming in my house revolves around my brother and his friends online playing either 2K or whatever shooter they're into at the time. Hopefully that'll change a bit when Mortal Kombat X comes out as that's usually something the whole family is interested in.

Handhelds because they're easier to play in short bursts if I want to. Consoles involve, like, 5 steps...turn on the system, turn on the TV, sign in to some stupid account so the console can bug me while I'm playing, check to see if the controller's charged, pop in the game I want if it's not already in it....

Handhelds, though, I usually just have to pop in a game and play. Heck, a lot of times I just have to open it up or flick the power switch real quick, and I'm back in the game. Really convenient for someone whose gaming mood can change in a heartbeat.

Handhelds, no competition. I also love the pick up and play nature of things. It suits adult life better. Consoles are great if you're a teenager with lots of time to spare.
I think there's also something to be said for the game budgets. I think a lot of console gaming has just got too big budgets. It's started to kill innovation. Handhelds, the 3DS being a perfect example of being at a nice level of technical ability, make it very easy to try experimental games that more or less hold up graphically. Indies also feel more naturally suited to handhelds. Maybe it's just me but sitting down on a massive TV with a console in 1080p to play Shovel Knight feels like a mismatch.

Consoles because in my opinion console games are more fun for me and their funner with friends . itll probably be handhelds when i grow up, but atm its consoles.

Both. I don't care if it seems like a cop-out but it's true, not just for me but for many other people. I love consoles since I can play them with my family, but if I'm outside and I have nothing to do, I use my handheld. I'm sure people would say why don't I just use my phone for gaming? Well, I really dislike phone games. The games for most of it suck (terrible games by terrible game creators that used to be on consoles went to mobile for a bigger market), I don't like the controls, I'm not gonna invest in a long term game since I don't have money (like clash of clans or whatever), and it wastes all my phones battery.

I'm just satisfied with both.

I prefer consoles, mainly because if I have to choose, the vast, vast majority of the time I think a tv is the better option to look at the game and thus play it. Also, more often than not I don't go to places with my games, so being handheld is usually not important to me.

Myself, I find myself opting for the handheld more and more lately. I appreciate being able to get up and walk around with the device, take it wherever I'm going, and find the most comfortable position in which to game even in my own home, or to multitask and play while cooking or whatever. Playing for a few minutes here and there, putting it to sleep, and picking it up and instantly playing from where I left off, playing in bed, stretched out on the couch, or upon the porcelain throne, it's just so convenient. I'm also preferring the types of games that come out on handheld. JRPGs and VNs seem to have gravitated towards handhelds, so that's where I've gravitated as well.

Overall, I've been playing my Vita and 3DS lately much more than my PS3 and Wii U.

Did you read my diary? Except for the vita part. This is me to the tee. I turn on my Wii U to check my Miiverse messages and that's about it these days. I still like my U and the games I have but it's just far too convenient to play on my 3ds when it's always with me. Never leave home without it!

Console for sure, I play handhelds, but generally if I'm in the house, I use a console, and if I'm out of the house, I'm usually too busy doing something to be gaming.
