Let's get this clear from the outset - this is not a competitior to Nintendo and Sony in any way. It's literally a portable computer for playing MMOs, and other online PC games, on the go.
And that just sounds awesome to me. Loving the idea of FFXIV on the go.

So it's a gaming laptop competitor...
Name me one gaming laptop that is even close to being portable enough to carry around all day.
Heck, my 15-inch business notebook gets outright uncomfortable after a long day. I would much rather a handheld sized console for my PC gaming on the go, personally.

Interesting concept but the fact that it only runs a linux OS spells doom for it, I dont know too many MMOs that run on linux. It would be cool if they had a Widows OS one.

You don't carry around laptops for extended periods of time, do you? Not only is a 15-inch computer bloody bulky (especially if you're on public transport), but its weight gets heavy after a while - regardless of how 'little' the spec sheet says it is.
On top of that, a 15-inch laptop is a pain to open up and play games on while on the go. There's a reason people use DSes and PSPs for gaming, even when they carry a computer around.
So there is no way this is a competitor for a laptop. Entirely different products.

QFT. Worst part abut my old job was lugging a 15-inch laptop during the commute. Ugh.

Well being the college student that I am, I got used to carrying around a backpack and laptop. My laptop runs plenty of games fine (expect for the latest super-graphic-heavy ones), so I'm fine with it.
Not to mention, where's the mouse controls on that new product?

I have a laptop that I carry around all day, and I feel decidedly stupid getting on the train with the bloody thing, my shoulder hurts after the typical 8-hour day, and most importantly, I don't want to boot the thing up to play games with it, I don't want to look at it, and I want nothing to do with it by the end of the day.
Looking at the devices that I actually want to use for entertainment when out and about, there's the Kindle, iPad, iPhone, DS, PSP.... yup, none of them even close to a KG of weight, and none of them even close to 15-inch screen. Clearly Panasonic is catering to my market.
I don't see how that would work at all... The power required to run a game, even on the lowest setting, is quite substantial, meaning battery life wouldn't be great. Also, to have a descent processor and video card in order to run these games, means that this thing will create quite a bit of heat in a small space. It doesn't look to have a good place for vents with it's size. I don't see it running regular games like WoW at all, possibly if they made a portable version of WoW for this and you could just link the two and have your saves running onto a cloud. That would require internet access. Fine, you need internet access to transfer your progress, so you just have to do it when you get home or whenever. But that is a ton of work for a small device which probably won't sell enough to convince a developer to take such a risk in investing in all that.
Then again, maybe they have good chips that don't produce much heat, but I don't see those chips being very cheap, not cheap enough to fit their $400 estimate. I could be very wrong, but most of these games still have a fairly competent minimum requirement and I see this device creating a lot of heat, which it cannot just vent out into your hands.
Sean Aaron ~ "The secret is out: I'm really an American cat-girl." Q: How many physicists does it take to change a light bulb? A: Two, one to hold the light bulb, the other to rotate the universe.
That thing is waaaaaay too bulky. Also anyone that wants to play MMO's in the first place deserves to lug a massive laptop about. I predict ..............................
I've also never used a public Wifi hotspot with internet that would be fast enough to capably run online games like WoW. If it uses 3G, that probably wouldn't be fast enough either to run anything that's come out recently (and if it was I'd hate everyone using it, because I know it would slow down/crash my 3G internet surfing if enough people were playing online with those things on AT&T).
Not sure about 4G, but that could be a possibility. Perhaps someone with Sprint could comment? At any rate, it's actual portability would be pretty limited, currently. If you could only play at home or at the office anyways, you might as well just play on a laptop.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
