Dunno if you guys heard (sorta ran into this info by accident earlier on a site I rarely visit anymore) but apparently the free to play PC/Mac MMORPG Free Realms is coming to PSN and will still be free to play. I saw it described as a "family friendly MMORPG" so it might end up being obscenely repetitive and simple (it is an MMO after all) but I'm at least gonna give it a shot. It's launching 2 days after the 3DS comes out though so that'll definitely hurt its chances of getting played very often...at least for a while.
But yeah--could be kinda fun to have something semi-goal oriented (unlike home) to do all community-style. Or it could be a complete waste of time and hard drive space....in either case the price is right
This thread has been good for getting me to try games that I was on the fence about.
This is one of the main reasons I kept this thread alive, and it has continued to thrive ever since.
@SilentJ... I actually enjoyed the movie a good bit. Thanks for the heads up.
Check out Strofans awesome review too guys, he did a grand slam job with it! @Mickey.... The Fullmetal Alchemist Brother, is that a sequel to the original series? I imported the first series and loved it, but I've had very little time for keeping up with the multiple series anymore.
@Swerd... I did see that. Might be kinda cool, but I'll be wide-eyed playing my 3DS for awhile after it's launch. Maybe get some PS3 time in when the thing is charging.
It's actually a remake, but it follows the Manga more. It's actually pretty different from the original, and a lot of people like it more. I've only seen the first episode so far, but I like where it's going. However, it also showed that I can't remember jack about the original, so personally I'll wait until I've gone through FMA again before I watch Brotherhood.
I'm surprised you like Nier, Elf, it reminded me a lot of No More Heroes. XD But yeah, AMAZING game. It and Enslaved are the best stories I've got on my PS3.
From my memory No More Heroes didn't have a plot involving a man fighting to save his daughters life. It didn't have Alan-Rickman-in-a-book, it didn't have Harvest Moon elements, or a fishing minigame that took some genuine talent to 'win.'
Neir's combat was the least interesting thing about that game to me. The setting, characters, visuals, music and side-stuff are entirely different.
Also, I know Cania made the game, and I am still sad that studio is not shut down. I was being flippant to say SE should have attached the Final Fantasy name to the game - although once again it probably would have worked and we would probably be playing Nier 2 right now if it happened.
Also, you do know SE just published Nier, right? They had no hand at all in the development. And The World Ends With You didn't have anything to do with Final Fantasy and sold great. If anything, it's SE's fault for not making more non-FF games. Seriously, name me some that have came out in the past couple of years? TWEWY and Kingdom Hearts games (which probably don't count since the FF fanservice) are all I can think of...but I don't really follow SE very closely so I could have very well missed something.
Tomb Raider? Deus Ex? Dungeon Keeper 3? SE owns Eidos, remember.
I know most everyone hated the Ghost Rider movie but I just thought I'd let you guys know it's available to rent for free on the video section of the PS Store. I think today might be the last day so download it asap if your interested. Oh, and this might just available in the US.
I actually really enjoyed Ghost Rider, although that's probably more because I like the character than the movie necessarily.
About Dynasty Warriors, I've come to realize that it's very difficult to enjoy if you don't care for the characters and history behind it. Personally, I left history class behind a long time ago, and I don't really care much about Chinese and Japanese history, and I don't really care much for Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warriors.
However, I do like DW: Gundam, and I liked the demo of Fist of the North Star, partly because the gameplay was marginally improved, but also because of the characters and world were interesting to me. I actually cared what was going on, and that really motivated me.

Yep, exactly. I'd go as far as to say that 80% of the appeal of Warriors games is the stuff that isn't in the game itself - the history and characters.
Which is why they'll always be niche titles in the West. The number of Australians/ Americans/ Brits who have more than a passing interest in Japanese history is small. The number of those that play videogames (rather than historical boardgames etc) is even smaller

Try Trinity Zill 'O Zero. It's an RPG take on the Warriors franchise.
Also, Troy might be interesting to you if you enjoyed the movie. If not... mabye not

Yup, that's why I suggest the next Warriors game be about American history! Seeing Goerge Washington and John Adams kicking tail would be the bomb!

hey hey hey, I reckon "Aussie Warriors: Ned Kelly"

I was just talking about gameplay, obviously. They both have the same "faults" that the general gaming public complain about and, again, the second half of the game (on the second playthrough) felt very NMH-ish the way the bosses were presented. And you liked the fishing minigame? XD
That still isn't really SE though and those are old IPs...I'm talking about the Japanese SE developers, when was the last time they made a new IP? TWEWY is all I can remember.

so I just tried to make a Free Realms account / download to my Mac, but (as if this even surprises me anymore) of course the Mac version didn't work right and wouldn't install. I swear to god I want someone to break into my apt. and steal this thing... That or a localized fire that only destroyed the comp and left everything else in tact (those are the only 2 ways it's insured and it's way too overpriced to be discarded as a wasteful purchase).
Macs suck. Don't ever, ever buy one. Unfortunately it's negatively colored my perception out of the gate on Free Realms too.
Guess I'll be checking it out on the 29th instead.
Oh and Parasite Eve today!! (I think)
@Popy - no one puts out new IPs anymore cause people ignore them. Sequels and side-stories are a much safer bet. Games like Enslaved get largely passed by and Black Ops sells millions. Such is the way of the world. Personally I don't think SE is any different from the norm in this regard--when's the last time Capcom made a new IP? Hell Nintendo rarely it anymore...I guess Steel Diver would count?
Ah man Parasite Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve! And I have no money! DX
That and 012 prologus just sitting there, taunting me ... bleeeeeeeeeeh.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
I hope Parasite Eve makes it over here too. It was never released in Europe originally, so I have no way of getting a used PS copy. D:

That's from Wikipedia, and that's pretending that Square Enix doesn't own Eidos or Taito (which is silly because they do and Tomb Raider is now as much Square Enix as Final Fantasy). That's also ignoring the mass of Japan-online games that SE churn out.
Interesting side note - Square Enix distributes and publishes Activision games in Japan...
