For those unaware, Extra Credits is a YouTube series that gives in-depth explanations on game design, and various things going on in the industry through a series of cartoony doodles and stock images. I just got into the series last year and I think it's a great show to watch if you want to see an in depth opinon or explanation of various topics in the medium. You may not always agree with them, but you can at least see they're coming from. Here's a link to their channel.
It's pretty great, if a little long-winded sometimes. My only major gripe is the quality of the voice recording, the guy really needs to invest in a better mic.
I like some of the videos and ideas, but not exactly all of them. Seems like to some degree they became too persuaded by the 'video games can can cause violence' crowd and other such crap.
If you focus on the pure game design videos (or happen to like the history related ones), then it's fine though.
I love Extra Credits but people need to keep in mind that these are just opinions and everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
I get that but the problem is that people are going to take it seriously since they are game designers. Not listening to them might mean that its going to affect one as a game designer. I mean, if I say that they are terrible (which for the majority part, they are) someone else is going to argue that I shouldn't be a game designer to begin with.
They're full of themselves and flip flopped from sane to blaming gamers for all that is wrong with the industry, much like those they mocked previously. The few times I've heard of them since watching some of their videos have just been times where they failed to do their research, and ended up looking like idiots, which is a shame because a lot of their early videos were very good.
