I keep on buying games and not feeling like getting past a very early portion of them... Does this happen to anyone else, or am I just a weirdo?

I play games and forget to actually beat them, lol

I do that... but not very often. Alpha Protocol comes to mind almost immediately.
My thing is, I'll usually buy games, get about halfway through them and then stop playing them because I got bored. So many games are the same these days, it's hard to hold my attention without making me feel like I've done it all before. When I play a game, I want to have fun. If I'm not having fun, I don't want anything to do with it.
I also own several games that I've never even played... and I wonder if I ever will.

I just buy games and lack the time to even open them, let alone play them

I do this to, especially with Humble Bundle games

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I did do it in the past, but now I keep track of my progress. I'm cutting down on buying games and force myself to play a game till I've finished it before moving on to another. Once you're past the beginning it becomes easier to pick it up again and finish it.

It depends. Games are different, so it depends on the game. Darksiders II is pretty glitchy and weird, so I'm avoiding it right now. It's reminiscent of some of the "core" shovelware that was on PS2, and that's 2 generations ago by now. Some of the stuff is just mindless, too, so it's boring. PoolFX on Xbox One is pretty mindless. So ya, it depends.

I think I actually don't finish most games I play... In some cases is almost on purpose since my main intention with bargain-bin games is the curiosity to try the game more than beat it.
However there are exceptions, sometimes a game get my attention so much that I can't manage to stop playing it until the main story/challange is over (and in few even rarer exceptions I keep playing even after that point XP).

I definitely found myself falling into that over the last few years. Someone else mentioned Humble Bundle: Yep, 100% That and Steam Sales mean I probably have like a dozen PC games just sitting there that I'll probably never even boot up. But when it comes to console games, I've been slowing down dramatically.

On my PS4, I promised myself I'm going to get a platinum trophy on The Last of Us before I move onto another game. So far, it's pretty awesome! I've played through the game a couple times, and I'm really digging into the multiplayer... it's like those days when you're a kid and basically only get new games from your parents once (MAYBE twice) a year. You had to make the games last, and you would replay the heck out of them. That's why we all remember those older games so well... we beat them dozens and dozens of times!

I finish all the games I start, but since I always play 2/3 games at once it can takes months to finish a long rpg/adventure. Can't remember of a game I didn't finish.

Praise the Sun, and Mario too.

I (and I'd guess most others too) tend not to play one game at a time. Different occasions tend to mean I'm in the mood for a different type of game, so rather than continue a save of a game I'm already into I might start something new, but usually with the intention of going back to the first game to finish it.

But as most of us experience, it's not quite as simple as that nowadays. The internet has made us so much more susceptible to finding out about other games that might take our fancy, plus most of us like to be able to contribute to conversations about as many games as possible.

So we are finding ourselves in trouble as the amount of incomplete and 'own but never played' just keeps growing.

Right now I can legitimately claim to be 'in the middle of':

Wind Waker HD
Xenoblade Chronicles
Pokemon Y
NSMBU
SSBU
Bayonetta
ZombiU
DKC:TF
Skyward Sword
Metroid Prime 1
Prof. Layton & the Curious Village
Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins
Super Mario Galaxy
Bit-Trip Runner 2

These are all games I've (mostly) put significant time (i.e. more than 2 hours) into and intend to play through to the finish (though I don't chase 100% usually). To differing degrees they're all games I've enjoyed playing, but just got tempted into trying other stuff.

The list above is probably shorter than my list of games I own but have hardly/never played. It's gotten much worse recently with my entrance into the 3DS scene and general collecting of the best games for Wii, Gamecube and DS on ebay.

Plus there's my Steam account, of course...

Can't see things changing much anytime soon unless I:
a) quit my job; and
b) sell my kids; and
c) disconnect from the internet

I don't buy as many games as I used to simply because I found myself not finishing a lot of them. Then when I thought about it, I wasn't finishing many of them because... well, they eventually got boring and I lost interest. To boot, I was trying to figure out what genres I enjoyed and those I didn't so I used to buy games from different genres. I played games here 'n there as a kid (I played outdoors, a rarity now lol) but I've only been really gaming since about 2008, I'd say. With everything on offer, I'm just more selective about what I drop money for. I'm also more of a handheld gamer than a console one (although I like a good console game here from time to time).

I think I can beat your list easily, gcunit! and also -.-

I have to admit that I never finished a Zelda game though I started to play Windwaker HD, Ocarina of Time 3D, Twilight Princess, A Link between worlds and Link's Awakening DX. I love the franchise and everything about it, but as soon as it starts to get difficult I drop the game. Though it is not really that I fail or anything. Just the feeling of pressure.
The curiosity aspect also is true for me.
And I really want to support good games.
I will for example totally buy Bayonetta 1&2, because it looks awesome and deserves it. Though I know that this really isn't my type of game.
I tend to finish turnbased RPGs though.
And I am addicted to playing MH4 online, though I can hardly get myself to continue the village quests. Somehow.
My mind is pretty strange regarding those things.

Never want to come down, never want to put my feet back down on the ground.

I've never completed a Zelda either, but I'm determined to change that. Wind Waker HD was my first actual purchase (well, it wasn't actually, I used my MK8 voucher on it; Skyward Sword is an ISO), but in the last month I've 'invested' £70 on OoT, MM and ALBW for my 3DS, so I'm in it for the long haul now, hoping to eventually play through all the main titles.

I do that a lot but it's mainly with Virtual Console games. I'll eventually go back to a retail game.

Started to play Ocarina of Time 3D pretty recently and was reeaaally about to play through it.
Unfortunately I went to the Forest Temple with only 5 or 6 hearts and realised that the boss was a biiiit harder than the ones before. So I never tried again. Sad, but true.
But this is probably the longest I played a Zelda game so far.

Never want to come down, never want to put my feet back down on the ground.

Mk_II

Yes, i'm having the same issues... too many games, too little time.

I haven't beaten the minority of games on my 3DS.
In Fire Emblem Awakening, I only just reached the part where 'Marth' lost 'his' mask. They didn't even reveal the name Lucina yet! And yet I got that game over a year ago!
I'm close to the end in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity, but I just don't bother to finish it.
Kid Icarus Uprising is one that I want to finish, but it's taking a long time. Currently working on it.
Not even close to finished with The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds
Luigi's Mansion 2 took forever.
I quit Mario Golf World Tour after just a few plays.
Even Pokémon Omega Ruby, I'm currently at the Elite Four, but I just stopped.

Continuously buy games but really don't put enough time to play them all. I have to force myself to stop starting games without finishing those I've already started,

Also tend to forget storylines so then need to restart them.

i.e I wanna restart Fire Emblem Awakening but I have a fair few JRPGs I really need to get back to.
