Topic: Nintendo Series Better on Other Consoles?

Sort of a bad question to ask to Nintendo fans like all of us, but I've been thinking... do you think that one of Nintendo's franchises would've been handled better if it was owned by Sony or Microsoft? I think that the F-Zero franchise may have been better if it were a Microsoft or Sony franchise. The Xbox clearly has better online (which would be great for the franchise) and the graphics of the PS3 would look appealing on a fast-paced racing game like F-Zero.

actually the Xbox 360 has the superior graphics power... but I don't think that better graphics would make it any better... look at Wipeout, even in HD is a F-Zero ripoff (or at least, the demo is)

Beautiful You don't hear this kind of wisdom on gamespot or ign forums.
But, anyway, I wasn't really talking about franchises that would look better, I was asking if say Mario (bad example ) was given to Microsoft, would it be better or worse?

Please explain me how the 360 has better "graphics" than the ps3. I see arguments across the net about this. Give me some facts like perks for instance. I've seen a few games that really do look better on 360,but at the same time i've seen the ps3 version of a game look better.

@odd69
You cant really say what system has "better" graphics since they are a reflection of the effort of the developer rather then the system, but since the PS3 has more power more can be done, but it's aparently much easier to make games that look "good" on the Xbox then the PS3 or Wii. So delovers will make a game for the Xbox and port it to the PS3 and since the graphics engines dont work exactly the same something is lost in the transition the they arent willing (or dont have the time) to fix it.

@malnin: That's actually out-of-date information. More games are made on PS3 and ported to 360 nowadays. Anyway, yes, the PS3 is more powerful, which leads to better graphical capabilities. Just look at Uncharted 2! If you claim something that beautiful could be pulled off on the 360, you're either lying or stupid.

Now remember, I have a 360, and I like it for what it can do (besides break too damn often...that part sucks). But the fact is, the PS3 is more capable graphics-wise, period. You can't compare multi-system games to reach this conclusion, though. Exclusive titles are the only fair way to judge, as each is designed to make the most of the hardware it runs on.

Oh yeah, on the original topic: Don't give Sony or Microsoft any Nintendo series. They'd just ruin them. If Nintendo somehow went the route of SEGA some day, I think Nintendo-developed games on PS3 could have some nice advantages, though.

My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P

No, the hardware in the PS3 has been proven superior to the 360's. But yeah, I've seen some gameplay of Wipeout and it is a rip off of F-Zero.

I think that Metroid could be better in the hands of Sony, not Microsoft though.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Dizzy_Boy

personaly, i think it`s not necessarily the console a game is on, but how the game plays.
if another developer took on nintendo`s racers, i would love to see sega take a turn with giving them a go. especially as sega have a good record of making great arcade racing games, outrun, daytona usa, sega rally, virtua racer.

The PS3 has a GPU based on the nVidia GeForce 7900, an old DirectX 9.0c Graphics card for computers, with up to 256 MB of memory
The Xbox 360 has a GPU based on the ATi Radeon HD 3870 chipset, a rather new, DirectX 10.1/11 (is not completely DirectX 11 compilant, but has some of the DX11 features, like the tessellation engine), with access up to 512 MB of memory.

So, actually, the Xbox 360 has the superior graphics hardware.... but is not yet used completely (the Tessellation Engine was only enabled for the PC version of the cards not so long ago, and since it's a DX11 feature, no games use it yet)... the memory difference also means higher resolution graphics are possible on Xbox 360 (for example, GTA IV runs at a way lower resolution on the PS3, sub-HD if I remember correctly)... The PS3 has a superior CPU, which gives it an edge on physics processing (haven't noticed a difference on my PC, but some fanboys care about it...) and helps to "compensate" the GPU disadvantage (those who know what's the difference between a CPU and GPU will know that it simply can't match the 360's GPU)

xbox 360

The main unit of the Xbox 360 itself has slight double concavity in matte white or black. The official color of the white model is Arctic Chill. It features a port on the top when vertical (left side when horizontal) to which a custom-housed hard drive unit can be attached in sizes of either 20, 60 (August 2008 onward) or 120 GB. Inside, the Xbox 360 uses the triple-core IBM designed Xenon as its CPU, with each core capable of simultaneously processing two threads, and can therefore operate on up to six threads at once.[46] Graphics processing is handled by the ATI Xenos, which has 10 MB of eDRAM. Its main memory pool is 512 MB in size

ps3 perks
The PlayStation 3 features a slot-loading 2x speed Blu-ray Disc drive for games, Blu-ray movies, DVDs, CDs, and other optical media.[105] It was originally available with hard drives of 20 and 60 GB (only the 60 GB model was available in PAL regions).[17][106] An 80 GB model has since been introduced in NTSC regions,[107] and a 40 GB model has been introduced in all regions.[108][109] All PS3 models have user-upgradeable 2.5" SATA hard drives.[110]

The PlayStation 3 uses the Sony, Toshiba, IBM-designed Cell microprocessor as its CPU, which is made up of one 3.2 GHz PowerPC-based "Power Processing Element" (PPE) and eight Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs).[111] The eighth SPE is disabled to improve chip yields.[112][113] Only six of the seven SPEs are accessible to developers as the seventh SPE is reserved by the console's operating system.[113] Graphics processing is handled by the NVIDIA RSX 'Reality Synthesizer', which can output resolutions from 480i/576i SD up to 1080p HD.[105] The PlayStation 3 has 256 MB of XDR main memory and 256 MB of GDDR3 video memory for the RSX.[114]

The system has Bluetooth 2.0, gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0 and HDMI 1.3a built in on all currently shipping models.[105] Wi-Fi networking is also built-in on the 40, 60 and 80 GB models while a flash card reader (compatible with Memory Stick, SD/MMC, and CompactFlash/Microdrive media) is built-in on 60 GB and CECHExx 80 GB models.[105][114] The system supports up to 7 controllers that are connected via Bluetooth 2.0 technology.[115]

The PS3's hardware has also been used to build supercomputers for high-performance computing.[116] Terra Soft Solutions has a version of Yellow Dog Linux for the PlayStation 3,[117] and sells PS3s with Linux pre-installed,[118] in single units, and 6 and 32 node clusters.[119] In addition, RapidMind is pushing their stream programming package for the PS3.[120] Also, on January 3, 2007, Dr. Frank Mueller, Associate Professor of Computer science at NCSU, clustered 8 PS3s. Mueller commented that the 256 MB of system RAM is a limitation for this particular application, and is considering attempting to retrofit more RAM. Software includes: Fedora Core 5 Linux ppc64, MPICH2, OpenMP v 2.5, GNU Compiler Collection and CellSDK 1.1

I'd say the ps3 has alot going on with it regardless. This is all taken from wiki. When i buy my 360 it will be the basic arcade model.I'm not going to put a whole bunch of money into it when it's just going to Malfunction anyway.

on the subject
If Sony and Nintendo or Microsoft would just team up and do one game together, I'd be happy. But we all Know Microsoft and Sony could never reproduce Mario like Nintendo could

A lot going on the non-gaming part (ie Linux), and they decided to take that functionality out... PS3 Slim no longer accepts Linux installs... although the wiki article doesn't go into detail of the GPUs capabilities, It should also be obvious to you that the Xbox 360 has more Xbox 360 memory available for graphics, which means more, better, and higher-res textures and higher native resolutions (native means the actual resolution a game is running, not the outputted one... GTA IV on PS3 runs at 576p for example, and 720p on Xbox 360)

Also, what do you think is the warranty for?, 3 year warranty on RROD an E74 problems... and buying a HDD by itself is far more expensive than buying the Elite instead of the Arcade... you could even grab the MW2 Limited Edition, it comes with a 250 GB HDD, 2 controllers and the game...

damn that sound like a good deal. I might look into that. I shouldnt have to buy a warranty though i should be able to trust the hardware. The arcade model is more affordable though, I can always add on to it later . I want toejam and earl so bad and I have to have fable 2

F-Zero and Wipeout never felt that similar to me. I much prefer F-Zero, but they're different games. Wipeout is much harder to control and features weapons. I also think if they make an F-Zero Wii with Galaxy-level graphics, I'd be just as happy as if it were made on PS3.

I am not really familiar with Sony or Microsoft's first-party studios, so I can't say if any of them would be good candidates to make a Nintendo game. I think if someone made Zelda on PS3 though that it would be more open-ended and probably have more interesting, challenging combat, like the old games, because that sort of game is more popular with the PS3 demographic. Nothing to do with the systems capabilities though.

But if we are basing this on system specs alone, I guess Fire Emblem maybe. I'd love to play an FE crammed with more cut scenes like Radiant Dawn's and much longer. I still can't believe that's came out of a Nintendo studio. The animation, direction, and voice acting are just top notch. I don't know how much more of that could or would be crammed onto a Wii disc.

Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.
