Topic: NGP Will Be Affordable!

Awesome article that I just slipped upon.

Sony's own European VP Jim Ryan stated today...
"Sony products used to be catered to the rich, or people who had a lot of money to invest in gaming. Although this strategy has worked, it has kept Sony from selling their products to the majority of buyers. Sony is finally starting to tap into this potential by offering devices like the PSP for a lower price".

This is awesome news for many who thought that the NGP would be out of their price range. I have been saying that NGP would be $300 USD (my opinion), but I'm now thinking that a $250 price match of 3DS is going to happen.

What do you guys think?

The article says the NGP is going to be Quote: "only $299.99 in US markets". That's the expected price. No news there. I don't see how that's "affordable" at all.

The 3DS alone with it's $249.99 price tag is "barely affordable" for me.

I might get it as long as it stays far away from the PS3 launch price. But first, the 3DS!

$300 isn't bad, but it's still too much for a handheld.

300 would be an absurdly good launch price, especially if the games for it look at ps3-caliber as the demo stuff i've seen leads me to believe. The original PSP debuted at 300 (didn't stay there for long) and NGP is comparatively a much better value by today's technology standards.

Its quite future proof as well in terms of tech. TBH I'd be very surprised if it'd be $300. Then again, thats the US. Over in the EU it'll probably be towards £280 I imagine! I'm going no where near it no matter what the price, but enjoy

"They say video games are bad for you? That's what they said about rock n' roll."

It reads "won't be just for the Ultra-Rich" which means just the rich regardless?

Main Final Fantasy & Quest/Shinobi Team fan...but I do like many SEGA games and a few Nintendo games.

I can be cute if I want to be, but I choose not to...as it's not my style.

As in time will stop once it's released? lol

If not then how is it future proof? Anyways, as someone else said, the 3DS for $250 is barely affordable right now for most people.

More than that is not very affordable. This is just a way of Sony trying to convince people (and shareholders) that consumers will get a lot for their money, making it not as much as it seems. Even though it is..

I will be steering clear of this car crash of a handheld, regardless of the price.

Dang, I seriously thought it was going to cost more than that! Considering how powerful the NGP is, the price is reasonable.

But will it have Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton?
Nope.

Even at $300 (which is unconfirmed; the info. came from a leaked photo, not a press release) it's not as good a value as many think. The model they are referring to is almost definitely the one without 3G, so the only way it is better than the 3DS is really graphics/power which is mostly used for graphics. However its lack of 3D and no real back catalog (because anyone with a library of hard-copy PSP games will have to re-buy them digitally, and I doubt EVERY PSP game is available to download; the 3DS, as far as I know, can play EVERY DS game ever made plus it will have the VH for downloading old Gameboy games, Game Gear games, and Turbografx games). The value of a system doesn't really come from how advanced its technology is, but rather from the software for it. The 3DS has quite an advantage in its superior backwards compatibility, and if the last generation is anything to go on, the 3DS will have better support than the NGP anyway.

Even if its cheaper than expected, its still not as good a value as many might think.

Will it have Mario? No.
Will it have Zelda? No.
Will it have Smash Bros.? No. I know what you're going to say, but at least the 3DS has a chance in getting it.
Will it have Kirby? No.
Will it have Pokemon? No.

What TrueWiiMaster said! Even if it turns out to be 300 dollars (I'll believe it when I see it) the value isn't as great as they would lead you to believe. Better graphics! when has that argument ever woked for you, Sony?

AlexSays

All that is very true.

$300 for pretty graphics is definitely a lot. While the 3DS has decent graphics, 3D, and a huge library of games already for 50 bucks less..

I like what Sony does with its console, but they are just terrible at managing their handheld. I don't envision this going well.
