That's still a rumor whether Edge says otherwise or not. Until Microsoft confirms the actual specs, release date and launch line up, everything is a rumor.
As for the possibility of this? Count me out. I'll stick to Nintendo's and Sony's platforms.
I find it hard to believe an internet connection will be required to use the next Xbox, improved Kinect wouldn't surprise me, but how much it would improve is the question.
Not only I'm hearing of the always online and no used games rumors but I'm also hearing rumors that commercials will pop in the middle of the gameplay.
I'll actually get these 8th gen home consoles if these rumors are false, especially the PS4.

looks like i would be missing out ish on some halo games and other exclusives i might be interested in for the next xbox if that rumour has any validity to it
Can Microsoft be that stupid? Arguably, they already are thanks to Windows 8. Certainly these are just rumors, but there have been reports and patent filings that indicate both Microsoft and Sony have both been working on it. That doesn't mean they will actually use such methods, or that they can't disable it if it doesn't go over well in the market. It wouldn't be the first time a big corporation made decisions that were anti-consumer. Perhaps they think they have a captive audience and it won't matter. It might just annoy people who may realize that their older games are still very fun. I've been enjoying NES and SNES games on my PS2 lately and Neo Geo on my Wii. It will be interesting to see what Microsoft does.
The no used game thing can only be a good thing for the industry.
But likely would be suicidal. I imagine Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are all waiting around to see who tries it first so they can jump on the bandwagon if it works and pretend they never had any plans to do it if it fails.

In a later time, I'd agree, but not right now. People like buying games used and having the ability to play their games on another system. The later could be fixed with the Cloud, but I don't know about server abilities to handle full-fledged titles without any hiccups. As for the former, it would really hurt the amount of games that consumers buy for their system, unless if Microsoft does what Steam does (which I doubt will happen). Used game sales help greatly attribute to the purchases of new games, as well as help build brand awareness. at least from what we've seen with Gamestop.
