So, I decided we could start a discussion about what will happen for the nex gen consoles.
I figure there will be another Nintendo console because of all the complaints about the systems power and, whether it has anything to do with the console or not, the online.
I also think Microsoft will create a new system due to how shitty their current one is. I don't want to start an argument but I'm talking about how badly made they are. The system has the power it needs but it's Microsoft, they know all they need is a newer iteration that isn't so shitty but they're going to make an entirely new console just to get that extra bit of money.
However, after all that, I don't think there will be a new iteration of PS3, at least not for quite a long time.
Discuss however you like. Agree. Disagree. I don't care.
Also stating what could be changed and whatnot is good too.

Sony will take the obvious route and make the PS4. dunno about the others. One day in art, I drew a picture of the box art for a game that I made up. It was for a fake system, The Nintendo Wiiality. Nice ring, huh?

lol
I don't think PS4 is necessary though, I mean the games on it currently hardly even use all of it's power, what more does it need?

Well, Sony will want to compete and make money, you know

Well, its kinda hard to predict the future of consoles, since technology is getting more and more advanced, but I, personally, would like to have a virtual reality console. even if the only game i had was a Legend of Zelda game.

No, maybe 1080 though.
Seriously though, it will most likely be something entirely different. Like Xbox X.
The PS3 is still a little bit ahead of the curve on technology. But I seriously don't see any point in all of it when developers don't use the power they are supplied with anyway, it's very rare for a console to be used to it's full potential and adding more just seems stupid. This includes 360, just to a lesser extent.

Is it sad for me to say I'm sick of the Wii, 360, and PS3 and want to move onto the next gen?

It's not not sad.

Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

Wii is like the NES and the Atari 2600: it will last for at least 10 years. I don't think that Nintendo will release a new console before 2012. Is obvious that they are on a different route that is not graphics based.
Xbox, hell yeah. MS will do release one because they can and won't stop.
PS...I guess that Sony will release the PS4 before 2011 due to the bad sales.

I think the wii will just improve. Remain with the VC and WiiWare, release bigger WiiWare. Motion plus Remote AND nunchuck. One more accessible button. Much more power and memory. Small size. Same price. Wii and Gamecube backward compability. And more stuff like that with maybe some innovation...

I don't know about you guys but the PS3 slim Sony just announced is sounding very much like where I wanted the "Next Nintendo home console" with only a few key differences.

Firstly its a PS3 so it still relies on disks, disks suck I hope the next gen moves back to cartridges which (thanks to flash becoming stupidly cheap) could soon (soon being 2012) hold about 8-32GB for under $10 a pop without the horrible seek speeds or read times of optical media. If we are still using disks and have to listen to the bloody thing spin around when you wait for doors to open in Metroid in 2012 I am going to feel ripped off.

Secondly I hope like hell the next gen consoles drop HDDs and go the NAND flash route (i.e. SSDs) like Nintendo did with the Wii. Yes its expensive and yes it means it will be small in comparison if you want to keep the price down. But damn its fast and also quieter than a mouse. On a home console there isn't much need for multiple TBs of storage (32-64GB is plenty) and the only reason you would want TBs of storage is to playback media..... but that's what external storage is for

which brings me to my last point.... the Wii has USB ports which is cool. But why the hell can't I use them for anything?

So basically... I want a DSi that I can plug into my TV via HDMI that has about the same amount of power as a PS3/360.

I don't think there's a need for a next generation.

You're joking, right? You just want to stop the progress of technology? What, have we achieved everything possible? That's crazy. I can agree that we're fine where we are for a good while, but we should just stop trying to make anything better than this current generation.

Well, there's no need yet. Maybe someone will find something that creates a need but there is none now.

Home consoles will NEVER make the move back to a cart based system, too pricey to manufacture as opposed to discs.

The next gen will rely even more on digital distribution and I daresay at least one of them will be purely a digital content stylee machine.

I think Nintendo's portable consoles have gone as far as they can.All they can do is just add a bit more ram or a higher processor. At least the Wii can move forward to hi-def graphics but after that....I really don't think virtual reality is a good idea.
