4th gen ->5th gen: DEM 3D models!! Holy shizzles my nizzle! Look at those 3D games! 2Ds is OVAH!!

5th gen ->6th gen: OMG look at dem textures! We've never seen a game with such realistic faces and textures!! Polygons are OVAH!!

6th gen -> 7th gen: Wow look at those realistic and sharp graphics! HD gaming is just simply AWESOME!

7th gen -> 8th gen: Well at least we are getting more pixels right? No? Still 720p? Well at least we are getting better smoke particles.

Which is why think Nintendo is right in going for gimmicks (though more power would of been nice), the power jumps aren't really big enough to effect gameplay anymore besides a stable frame rate (which is also quite nice). I think the new consoles should just focus on changing up games by changing the way we play them.

But who knows? Maybe 8th gen will bring new stuff to the table and shake things up, it's too early to tell really. VR seems promising, though whether or not it sticks is completely up to chance. Maybe this gen will do to motion control, what 6th gen did for 3D.

I can give a lot of reasons and ways gameplay still gets affected by power jumps. A lot of them are the ones we've been getting from generations 5 to 6 and 6 to 7 too. And as always, these improvements make way for new experiences and ideas.

I was actually referring to the 7th->8th gen jump. I have yet to see many games hugely benefit from the 8th gen power jump, aside from a graphical leap and stable frame rate. Though like I said in the same post it's too early to lay judgement. Probably should of phrased that better in the initial post.

I was referring to the 7 to 8 jump having a lot of the improvents that the previous two did, so I understood your post, it's mine that should have been phrased better. To name a few things that affect gameplay. View-draw distance, this affects how games are designed. In inFamous: Second Son, the game was designed with this in mind, in inFamous 2, they had to adjust level design because of the view draw distance possible on PS3.
Samurai Warriors 4 is using the extra power by removing enemy units pop in and having more units on screen at once.
Assassin's Creee: Unity is now able to have crowds of up 30,000 people, and you can imagine what they'll be able to do that. These are a just a few examples that only look at one aspect of the gameplay affected by power.

You guys are getting hung up on the whole "Next Gen" marketing buzz word that's flooded the gaming world in the last 18 months. Gaming doesn't evolve to some magical new state each gen, it is simply refined and on occasion expanded upon.

Its also worth noting that most of the hyped "next gen" games are actually, cross gen or started development as 7th gen. Don't expect to see true 8th gen developed games (outside of Nintendo), until 2015/2016.

I don't own an X1 so i can't talk about that but my PS4 & Wii U compliment my PC perfectly and are leaps and bounds above their predecessors and have tons of potential, time will tell if they can fulfil it.

Yes, the potential in next-gen is there. Its just not really being used yet, and I don't think it will be for a while.

Depends on the context. While they don't change much from a gameplay standpoint, infamous second son & ruse are technical marvels to behold and will be the best two looking game till quantum break and the order next year

The new gen so far has been more about the ease of gaming and experimenting on how view the medium b as a service. .

I think the PC version of Ryse will look loads better (And will show what they should have gone for). Just going on how it looks. (Which seems to be quite a large proportion of what people care about these days).

@unrandomsam Of course PC will look better. If you want the absolute best graphics possible then PC gaming is the only way to go. No console game will ever look better then it's PC counterpart unless the dev just really screwed something up.

But what are good graphics worth if the game itself is a joke ?

That applies to loads of games that seem to be popular.

Watchdogs is a bad game that also looks bad for example.

The problem is there is that's very subjective since it's just opinion. There's loads of people of also enjoy plenty of games that you may have a dislike for.

I have a subjective statement.

I have no interest in the PS4 or Xbox One. They are a waste of money.

It really depends. I like Xbox One, but not PS4, really. I never really played Halo all that much, so the updated versions of those games in MCC is a pretty big step to get one of their biggest franchises a big entry. The amount of content that will be there is almost outrageous. Otherwise, I would agree that neither the Xbox One or PS4 are realy worth getting yet.

I have enough games on mine to have given me at least 100 hours or so of playtime so far, and it was fun, so I'm not really gonna complain. The main difference between Xbox and PS is the exclusives. Specs ain't gonna change that.

I like that you clarified it was subjective to begin with. I think the internet made an impressive breakthrough today

I guess it all depends on your preference on what's "dull" or not. I have no interest in KH3, FFXV, any CoD, any Assasin's Creed, or any GTA games so PS4 and Xbox One obviously aren't holding any sway over me at the momoent...but I might be more interested with the release of a new Red Dead or Star Wars Battlefront 3 (or a Mass Effect that's more like the first two). All the console politics have me leaning towards PC if anything though. There's even Sony fanboys trolling on Miiverse...that's a new low...I'd rather just belong to the pretentious "PC Master Race" and live in my own bubble; secretly hating hipsters and their overprice, easy-to-use Macs...grrrrr

Depends on your definition. For Nintendo, Wii U is "next-gen"

Mario Kart 8 does legitimately look better than nearly anything on Ps4 or Xbox One right now. Partially because it has an aesthetic other than boring and admittedly partially because PS4 and Xbox One are 95% last gen games until next year.

I wasn't implying it wasn't. The message that I meant to convey, was that what TheMisterManGuy sees in the Playstation 4 is what I see in the Wii U.
