Since Microsoft’s acquisition of Rare in 2002, the platform holder has tasked the developer with creating titles that appeal to a small section of the Xbox 360’s user base, according to Andreas, but he feels that the release of Natal will do much to grow the console’s audience and allow the studio to shine.

"I do feel in many ways that – and I’ve said this to some people as well – for me this is really the first time that Microsoft and Rare are on a very similar path," Andreas told VideoGamer. "We’ve obviously been tasked to create experiences that nobody else can create, which explains things like your Kameos and your Piñatas and your Banjos. But obviously the hardware is aimed at a different demographic, and so we’ve always battled against that.

"Whereas now with Natal, it looks like the roads are on the same path. It’s a union of the two philosophies of the different companies, I guess. Natal is supposed to reach out to a broader audience and a broader consumer, and Rare’s products are always aiming in that direction as well. So from that perspective the future looks incredibly bright for us really. It’s definitely something everyone’s enthused about and energised about."

Rare art director Steve McFarlane recently told OXM that "no one knows who we are." He added that the studio is looking forward to the extra attention it will receive following Peter Molyneux's appointment as Microsoft Game Studios Europe's creative director. "I think over the last few years maybe the awareness of Rare has dropped. And the idea of Pete coming in and being this new face of Rare it's a great thing for us. It's really just to get us out there a bit more."

Reason #1 to be glad you are a Nintendo fan - you have EAD behind projects instead of RARE - wow if RARE/Molneau is the driving engine behind NAtal, I think it not do so well....

One thing about Nintendo as well - they are great overseers - ussually (starfox ASSault, cough cough- I mean Miyamoto told Retro to do the visor things - Retro was his, well youi know.

Also - look at Excitebots - how Nintendo it is for a 2nd party game....

Yeah, anyway - whistles dixie

WHo misses Rare - not me.

IGN: The holiday Wii lineup looks thin for the hardcore crowd. We see this. Gamers see this. What, if anything, is Nintendo planning to address it?

Oh good, I am neither a gamer or hardcore. Saves me from having to be IGNorant.

I loved Kameo, but I keep hoping for a sequel. But if they're wanting to focus on Natal, I guess I can pretty much kiss that hope goodbye.

Plain old gamer :)

I agree, but they should at least release there old games on the Virtual Console.

Don't reply to this post, we already seen "It's impossible." an more then fair amount.

You know I think it serves them right. RARE abandoned Nintendo to try to sell Nintendo games on a Microsoft system. Im glad they failed. I dont want to be playin Nintendo type games on my PS3 or PSP. I want my Nintendo type games on Nintendo systems. RARE, I do miss you simply because Donkey Kong Country Series has always been one of my fav series but I do hope you fail misserably with Microsoft just for abandoning you core audience. You deserve to fail epically.

I like Rare, but Microsoft caused them to ruin their best series. Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is okay, don't get me wrong, but it just isn't Banjo. I don't know why that just because it was on a Microsoft system, they had to make it this HUGE game. Bigger isn't always better. I want Rare back on Nintendo's side. Donkey Kong games are getting progressively worse...

I love Rare when Nintendo owned them, but now Rare has lost it's golden touch. They have even messed Banjo-Kazooie up in Nuts & Bolts, it serves Rare right!

Have they lost a golden touch - or Nintendo direction?

C3PO - 'THe odds of RARE pulling a Wii Resort out of their ass are three hundred eighty seven million to one!'

The worst snake oil selling I have ever seen was the Molneaux/Milo E-3 video - I mean, wow - 'Its called snake oil y'all its been around for a long long time.' It was an insult to the intelligence of gamers and yet the game media gave him a standing 'o' and named Natal the best teck at E-3 over motionplus - lol!

Which little piggy went to market and which little piggy went 'wii! wii! wii!' (I want to be) all the way hoome?
