Topic: MY XBL ACCOUNT WAS HACKED

Well today I get a email from Microsoft saying thank you for purchasing 4000 Microsoft Zune points yesturday. Ok???? Why would I purchase Zune points when I dont even know what the hell Zune is. So I figure ok maybe the wife knows something about this but shes asleep so I will ask her in the morning.

I than decide to watch some Netflix and notice that I am logged out of my XBL account. Which is kinda strange since I never log off of it so I got to log in and up comes a message. Sorry your account had been moved to another console and is no longer valid on this console. WTF???? So I log on to the Xbox site to see what that means and according to their site it means my account has been hacked and that I have to call them up tomorrow to get it straightened out.

Well at this point I am annoyed so I decide to play my 3DS but before I even turn it on another thought came to mind the 4000 Zune points. OH F---!!! I than check my credit card statement the one I use for buying XBLA games online and I notice a charge yesterday for 54 dollars.

So now I have to call Microsoft tomorrow and my bank and deal with a bunch of paper work just because Microsoft has crappy security that apparently any idiot can hack into. I was glad that I went with an Xbox when I heard about the big hack job on Sony now I am not so sure. Yeah great security you got there Mr. Gates.

Anyway just wanted to warn you guys to be on the lookout for any suspicious activity on your XBL accounts.

Happened to me one month ago. Guy ran up 12,000 points in like ten minutes. He was still buying points while I was on the phone with MS. And you won't get your account back for about 1.5 months. Mine is still locked. Had to cancel my debit card as well.

Wow, that really sucks dude. I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. Hope that you can straighten it all out tomorrow. I'm a lot more cautious about my online accounts with my PS3 and Xbox 360 ever since the Sony incident a few months ago. I removed the credit cards that I had on my PS3 and fortunately I never registered any credit cards on my 360. I only buy points cards now.

well i used visa card to buy points for a game or watever it was a year or so ago lol but i hear that if u use it to resubscribe for gold membership that it locks up credit card?

i know you can take it off on the website for other stuff but i dont know if its possible to do that for a renew membership

hmm im not smart to word it properlly what i mean to say is instead of buying a goldmembership code from a store in my own effort to save paper and buy it on XBL would i be able to take off the visa the same way i did when buying MS points?

Crap a month and half seriously??? Looks like I will be watching Netflix through my Wii and 3DS for that time. What a joke makes me just want to stop supporting MS now. Why the heck dose it take them so long to get your account back?

I know, I was told about 2 weeks. Yeah right. I even called them last week and they said, "they're still investigating it".

possibly to assess the time you notice your account was hacked and the stuff that was bought for whatever content which those providing would have to take a small bit of loss for cuz of fraud or something?

Well nothing I can do for now. And once you tie a credit card to Gold membership, you can't remove it. That's why you have to call them when someone is running up points. Plus you can't access your account to change the password if this other person is logged in. So you're screwed basically. But I did cancel the card immediately so that stopped them from buying more points. Now whether or not I ever see a penny of that $150 back, who knows.

But I'd kinda like my account back as it has nearly 300 games attached to it.

Well I managed to do some damage control. I found a notice in my spam box saying that I added another email address to my XBL account which I didnt of course but I was able to get in change the password really quick than I remove that sorry son of a email address and than changed my password again.

Now I am on the billing portion of the site and I see that yesterday a Gold Pack was charged to my account along with a silver pack and a premium gold pack. Not sure what those packs are but I will have to wait till tomorrow to call them and get those off my record.

I lost nearly 7000 MS points that I had sitting on my account when I got hacked about a two or so months ago. I also had a credit card attached to the account but it was never used. The "investigation" took approximately a month to complete and I was refunded all of my points. I, of course, couldn't access my account while the investigation was taking place and canceling the card was kind of problematic.

I was able to remove my credit card info from my account through the account settings via the xbox. I had always heard that you couldn't do that, but I did.

Microsoft really needs to do something with the account recovery system they use. For example, if I am going to do an account recovery to another xbox, it seems that it should send me an e-mail or possibly a text message asking to verify if I really want to do it. Alternatively, since I have a Windows Phone (WP7), they should offer an option to integrate the whole recovery process into the phone for an additional level of security. They've got to be losing money hand-over-fist.

I rarely re-use passwords, but it just so happens that the password I used for my Live account was the same as my Nintendolife password. Not any more.

You know, the irony.. Nintendo's online structure is mediocre (I don't care really, it does it's job fine with me), but issues like this cannot happen because accounts are locked to your console and you don't need to sign in.

That really sucks though. Hope everything gets settled. Microsoft should track the leecher and have him arrested. People can be such scum bags. My brother has been using Xbox Live since 2004- Halo 2 and Star Wars Battlefront. Never been hacked. Real lucky, considering his password isn't even strong.

My windows live account got major smaped and I had to reset the password and moved everything to gmail. (I foward most stuff anyway) my live account wasn't even touched even though they're the same thing. Found out this same email worm also has been hitting gmail and yahho too.

Still sucks dude. But I chalk it up to that honestly any account can be hacked or taken so I dont really think anything of it. Also thats why you should use a seperate account just for gaming, music, and the ilk.

I seem to recall a certain person who'll remain nameless on this thread saying things to the effect of "lol@Sony users" during that hack.

And no one got my credit cards from that hack.

(Seriously, it sucks though for Tasuki/ Corbs/ everyone else. And is proof that no online system is actually secure. Just be glad it was only $60)

Funny thing is apparently Nintendo's systems don't store your credit card # either....now who are the geniuses here?

I hope someone hacks my PSN account. They'll be sorely disappointed as that card had expired last year

@waltz
If you're referring to me, sorry to disappoint, but I never said such a thing because my card info is stored to my account, so, I wouldn't be laughing at such a thing, even if I never had a PSN account because it's not a laughing matter.

If you're not addressing me, then cool. If you are.. lol @ you

Lucky for me the PW that I used was only used for the XBL account so I dont have any worries there. My biggest thing is this slimeball have my credit card number. Usually I use prepaid cards for the purchases and stuff like that and I use a prepaid credit card for my online dealing but some how this time my main credit card was tied to the account. I think the wife may have used it for something thinking that was the online credit card. Oh well going to be going to the bank here in a few minutes to get a new card and all that stuff fun times for me.

I do however have an email address that the creep was using so I will turn that info over to the bank and MS and hopefully they can track this guy through his email address.

I don't think he has your card# because don't XBL display the last 4 digits only?
