I was just curious what you guys thought were the best, most emotional Nintendo songs. By emotional, I mean stuff like gusty garden, lon lon ranch, ballad of the wind fish... songs that make you happy and sad.

I am a Big Nintendo fan and spend much of my freetime playing Mario, Zelda and more! My other hobby is my Gaming website, GamingTelescope https://gamingtelescope.blogspot.com/ and looking at Gaming News on NintendoLife!

Gerudo valley gets me emotional but I'm not sure why or what the emotion is. Most Zelda songs do actually.

Me too. My favourite zelda theme.
I’ll put ballad of the goddess there too

End credits of super Mario 64
Starship Mario theme

End credits of street fighter 2

There’s more.

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

I’d put The Great Sea up there. You hear it every time you sail in The Wind Waker, but it never gets old and really captures the feeling of adventure.

I like the Dragon Roost Island theme a lot too, but the Rito Villiage orchestral version in BOTW might be even better with those soaring strings.

Yeah... most Zelda songs. Doesn't really matter which game. Ocarina of Time still gets me in all kinds of moods with its soundtrack. And the music of other large-scoped games, like Xenoblade Chronicles.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with the people mentioning Zelda stuff. Midna's Lament is a big one for me. Just perfectly fits that situation in the game. Ballad of the Wind Fish was another good mention.

ON EDIT: Can't believe I forgot to add some of the SNES Donkey Kong Country tunes: Aquatic Ambience and my all-time favorite video game track Stickerbrush Symphony!

I always got a little emotional hearing the credits music of mario 64! Oh and speaking of mario how bout the track that plays on the first part of the space junk galaxy in mario galaxy? Bowsers final battle theme in that game rocks too! It's so epic sounding! It's like you hear it and you know mario is in for one heck of a fight!

Hey Nintendo, I'm ready for mario galaxy 3 now! Anytime would be good!

@Rexenokid
Engage the enemy is also great! Probably my favorite track in the game!

The Face Shrine theme from Link's Awakening (2019) really shook me when I first heard it. Definitely one of the most sombre tracks Nintendo have ever had.

At least 2'8".

@1UP_MARIO damn didn't get notified of your reply because it was a quote instead of a tag

I love song of storms too, not sure if the emotion is like a hopeful unease if that makes sense.

SF2 is a great shout and if we are going off Nintendo specifically then MGS is great, the main snake eater theme gets me going and when the main boss fight of mgs iv cycles through all the previous games' themes I became really emotional. Though to be fair the whole ending of that game was really emotional.

@Rexenokid Drifting Soul from XC2 is the one that gets me, maybe because of the scenes that it plays in.

@GamingTelescope Just hearing Gaur Plain from Xenoblade Chronicles immediately takes me back and makes me want to revisit the game, again. Then there's Lance's Champion theme in Pokemon Gold and Cynthia's in Platinum. Also the gym theme in Sword/Shield. Oh, and I could never forget the excitement from the Metal Mario theme in Mario 64.

Octopath Traveller had great music too. With the music always matching and emphasizing the tone of whatever events were going on.

this is the immediate song that comes to mind

i would probably make decently different lists depending on if the context of when the song used matters or not (there's a lot of weirdly emotional songs in typical platformers or the like). But the former would largely be the same couple of games...

Shocked that no-one has mentioned Hitori Omou from Fire Emblem If/Fates (namely the original Japanese version of "Lost in Thoughts"). The alternate (and shorter) version sung by Shigure during the end credits of the DLC is also great. Easily worth the cost of the OST alone, though there are plenty of other great pieces scattered throughout the game(s). I even bought the standalone single for the Blue Forest version of the song (though the version with the DVD was out of print).

I also love "Don't Speak Her Name!" from Awakening, and the short piece when Chrom and Lucina embrace.
