It'll be cool to see what else is in there. While the popular "urban legend" variation of the landfill story was that it was all E.T. carts, the "in the know" people always had said that E.T. was only a fraction of what was buried. It supposedly is supposed to contain many different games (and accessories) from the 2600 that Atari no longer wanted to pay to store when The Crash was happening.

They had the lead designer of ET there as well. Documentary should be pretty interesting.

Yeah, the fact that the great Howard Scott Warshaw (who also programmed Raiders of the Lost Ark and Yar's Revenge — kinda ironic that he programmed both one of the greatest and one of the most-reviled Atari games) is there is excellent. The man is a great interview, and very realistic about the business and his role in the 2nd gen. I'd highly recommend the "Once Upon Atari" documentary series that he did, which is available on DVD (and also on YouTube, I think).

I've always believed one of the reasons ET for the Atari 2600 is so unloved and underrated is because most people don't know how to properly play it, with that in mind please enjoy this vintage Let's Play video explaining how to play ET for the Atari 2600.

And I heard some of the cartridges were still playable. Gives Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony an opportunity to work on Atari 2600 games on the eShop, Playstation Network and Xbox online stores and downloaded for a reasonable fee of around $1.99 plus tax.

Just goes to show how durable game cartridges are when you can dump them in a pit, roll over them with a bulldozer, drop decades of trash on top, cover it with a layer of concrete, let them cook in a New Mexico landfill pressure cooker for thirty years, then excavate them and they still play, try that with a disc!

I've often wondered were an extraterrestrial race to visit Earth a thousand years after the extinction of humanity what sort of artifacts would they discover? I suspect whatever human relics they find working video game cartridges will be among them.
