I have recently had a craving to make a platforming game, and so I was looking through my spritesheet collection, and came across King Dedede from Kirby Superstar Ultra. So, my idea so far is to make a platformer in which you play as King Dedede. But what should you do in it? As I was writing this, I've started thing a platform fighter might be a good choice, but what do you think?
Your gonna need platforms
I hope thats all the help you need.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
Ya youre definitely gonna want lots of pounding. A fighter/platformer mix does sound pretty great. Also add me on 3DS? I added you already. Friend Code in the signature
How limited is Game Maker? I used RPG maker back in the day, but since I've learned some fairly extensive programming through work I'd be more inclined to code things myself (not that there's anything wrong with using a game-making program). In fact, I've started some very basic stuff for a game but have had limited time to work on it.
I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.
King Dedede's point of view during other Kirby games (especially that time when Metaknight tried to take over Dreamland with the Halberd and became really evil because of poor localization).
RPG elements because every game should have RPG elements (I don't think I'm exagerrating either).
Remake that obscure Hal Famicom fighting game but with Kirby characters.
Pull a Superstar and make a bunch of fairly short, unrelated stories to make a game.
Find Metawarp and force him to write the dialogue (unless BudDudandSlash is still lurking, no one here is ever going to get that reference).
MORE HI-JUMP.
MORE ANIMAL FRIENDS.
And finally make sure the game plays only slightly like a Kirby game. Just because.

Basically, it's the gameplay I showed you above, and there are Relics hidden across the land. The Relics unlock Spyro's new abilities- such as wall climbing, gliding, rolling down hills... Also, during certain points in the story, Spyro unlocks new elemental breaths, which he is able to upgrade using experience points. I can see some kind of "King Dedede wants the Star Shards to unlock their abilities and beat Kirby!" story, with the breaths as special attacks for his hammer, and even maybe a copy of Kirby's swallowing as an unlockable ability(because he did it in Kirby's Adventure). If you want something like that.
Haven't had much time to work on this yet, but King Dedede now runs and jumps! Next up is hammer swinging.
@Wheels2050 : Gamemaker is incredibly versatile. You are not even limited to what the program gives you; depending on how good you are at C programming, you can do anything you could with any other program, using DLLs. It's also great to use before you learn C, it gets you set up to learn it easier.
I could help you with ideas, you'd have to give me some time to come up with them and pitch them to my partner in crime (to see if my ideas are good enough) but you'd have to letme know if you're interested. @LollipopChoSaw isn't it only illegal if money is being made from it?
