So I absolutely adore Monster Hunter Tri. I haven't felt addicted to a game like this in a very long time. My Wii is 3 years old though, and has been failing... and is now kaput. I have to wait 3 weeks for it to come back to me repaired.
I happened to have just bought a PS3. I do not like FPS games (I get motion sick). Anything like Monster Hunter Tri I can play to fill my time while I wait??

If your PS3 is a backwards compatible model then you could get the PS2 version of Monster Hunter. If not then I'm not sure what to suggest. Is Demon Souls out where you are?

Give Sacred 2 a whirl. It's got a similar MMO-style gameplay feeling to it.
It ain't no Monster Hunter (that's for sure) but I can highly recommend Uncharted 2 to anyone - though it does help if you played the first as some of the plot elements/characters could possibly confuse you if you hadn't. Still, it's the best adventure romp that plays like an action movie.
Two other titles I highly recommend which can be had now for mere $20 is Dead Space and Valkyria Chronicles. Dead Space is one of the very few games that had me inching my forward due to fear what may be lurking around the next corner; it sure made me jump at times. Slicing and dicing a particularly nasty necromorph sure felt good, though. As for Valkyria Chronicles, it's the best strategy game I've played this side of Fire Emblem/Advance Wars. While it's turn-based your actual turn is semi real-time during which enemies can shoot at you so you'll actually have to make use of cover and aim yourself - nothing like an FPS though. Oh, and the game has an awesome style to boot.
So yeah, those three would comprise my favorite PS3 games along with the Williams Collection (pinball), which looks damn good in 1080P in comparison to the Wii version.
Hm, since all those games are third-person stuff not sure how that's going to affect your motion-sickness, but if you can stomache Monster Hunter Tri just fine, I'd think they shouldn't give you any problems. In any event, you should be able to try out any of those three beforehand as demos for them are readily available on PSN.
Thank you all for the suggestions!! I did not realize there was a Monster Hunter for PS2 Luigi78. I will hunt one down immediately to get through this dry spell I have a PS2 handy because all my DDR games are for that system.
Pegasus - oddly enough, the motion sickness thing seems to only hit me with first-person games. it's bizarre.

Augh I just want to run around and collect herbs and honey and poke at a few big dinos
I wonder how quick Nintendo will be..... I have to give them a lot of credit so far for customer service.... I called three times and had one other callback - just so I could freak out about their setup with VC/Wiiware being tied to the console. I would have went out and bought a brand new Wii if they could/would have swapped them over for me. I've spent a lot. But they couldn't So they listened to me rant and curse and call the company terrible names before patiently and politely responding. Thumbs up. I've worked at call centres and it's hard to keep your cool sometimes.

I'm impressed One week to the day since I sent it. Only $63CDN total after the tax and shipping. A huge thumbs up to Nintendo. I did not find a PS3 game that filled the void that was left in my Wii's absence. I'll stay a loyal fan for a bit longer, I think And the weekly releases are great today too.

The funny part is I haven't even tried online yet. This game is perfect for me. I'm super OCD-ish... so I can't get enough of collecting and hoarding resources and meat and everything. TEE HEE
Also, I guess I didn't mention it clearly in my last post but - I GOT MY WII BACK today I ♥ ♥ ♥ Nintendo. One week to the day and they have it fixed and shipped back. They even cared enough to replace the little cover over the gamecube memory card slots, which I had misplaced. And I only had exceptional customer service throughout the whole 'ordeal,' and the repair website on Nintendo was updated within hours of any status change.
Well I'm a bit late, but one of the closest games to Monster Hunter is Phantasy Star Online. You can play it for free on your PC on this private server. (The official ones are down and Sega seems to have basically given the server its blessing since it's been up for so long.) The server also supports Dreamcast and Gamecube if you have the game for those.
Anyway, enjoy MH3 now that you've got your Wii back!
