For the past few months i have been noticing that "Live" is being used a Internet or being online. Examples:
1. "Sorry i couldn't go on Facebook, my live wasn't working"
2. "The Wii as no live, so it sucks!"
3. Person1- "Hey guys, playing Call of Duty?" Person 2- "Yea! On PS3!" Person 1- "Oh! So are you guys playing on live?"
All of the above statements i have heard before. So has anybody else been noticing? I dunno why, but i think these guys haven't gotten out of there little red ring of Xbox and experienced anything else.

I first read this as "Life is the new Internet," and it made me think of those classic Nickelodeon ads about "actual reality."

Otherwise, though, I don't know what you're talking about.

Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense.

Um, Xbox live?

What i mean is that, when people are referring to the internet, or online play in a video game, they use the term Live for it (as in Xbox Live) as if it means internet, even if it isn't related to the Xbox. I hope that clears things up.
Here is the translations for what i said in post 1.
1. "Sorry i couldn't go on Facebook, my internet wasn't working" (which, only stupid people would say)
2. "The Wii as no online, so it sucks!"
3. Person1- "Hey guys, playing Call of Duty?" Person 2- "Yea! On PS3!" Person 1- "Oh! So are you guys playing online?"

I remember that. It actually encouraged me to go outside once in a while instead of playing TF2 24 hours a day.

(sigh) Nickelodeon sucks now...

wont be on here anymore

I think he's saying that Xbox Live is becoming the new internet (which isnt true)

wont be on here anymore

You guys must have never experienced this then.
Lets use another example:
Ok, the Nintendo DSi can connect to the internet, right?
Well, people i know these days would say that the DSi can connect to Live.
So what i mean is that people who haven't been doing much but play Xbox think that the internet=live. It is just the name of the service for Xbox, not the whole web.

And they're not missing out.
PS3 browser is so bad it's not funny anymore. It can't display Wikipedia on it nor can it fully load Sony's own forums.
Actually the Wii browser is truly more smooth and better.

I don't get the issue here. In each of your examples, the XBox Live service is what they're using to do the things they need to do.
1. Facebook is accessible from an Xbox360 btw.
1a. The general internet is not accessible from an Xbox360 so "Live" isn't synonymous with "Teh Internet"
2. The Wii having poor online capabilities is a complaint of a lot of people.
3. #3 Makes no sense. You can't be on "Live" if you're on a PS3.

Brands have a habit of turning into 'normal' words when they've become popular with the masses. For example:
Sellotape is one specific brand of sticky tape
Hoover is one specific brand of vacuum cleaner (and other household appliances, but 'hoovering' tends to refer to vacuuming)
Game Boy, we all know here as referring to a specific line of consoles, but for most people it refers to any handheld gaming device.
Playstation is the home console equivalent of Game Boy.
iPod is starting to become the standard word for any MP3 player.

For some they could be referring to Windows Live, other than that I don't know.

Also, I highly doubt anyone would have noticed it in half an hour.

I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

I think he's referring to the use of the word "Live" or "Internet", which people use improperly these days.

For example if your internet service provider has technical difficulties for a matter of time and you we're in the middle of an online match, or just chatting with your chums. When your service comes back, your pals would wonder what happen. Most people would reply "I believe my service was out, but it seems to be fine now". Then you have that 40% of people who would reply "I lost my internet" or "My internet went down" or even worst using the word "interweb" making that team even more improper.

Your examples have not convinced me that people are equating "Live" with "Internet". The first two are from people who are using "Live" just as it should be used. Example 3 just doesn't make sense at all.

People with less of a grasp of what the internet is, how it works, and etc, will use the most frequently associated name to describe it. If Live is the word they see most commonly when they use the internet, then that is what they'll assume it to be called.
Another example, once someone wrote a blog about Facebook, and was astounded when hundreds of comments piled into his blog from people who thought his blog was Facebook. They wanted to know why it had changed, and why they couldn't log in, and where had all their friend's profiles gone. For those people, the internet IS Facebook. They don't open their web browser because they're going to visit the website www.facebook.com, they double-click the little picture on their screen that makes Facebook appear.
The same thing could well be happening with Live.
