Dunno how much discussion this would garner, but considering the size of the series, I gure it'd be worth its own thread at some point.

Please note this is for discussing any LEGO-related game from any platform.

Anyways, I haven't played any LEGO game since LEGO Star Wars II. I remember really liking it quite a bit, despite the glitches. It's the only game my bro and I ever really beat (I think we beat it, at least) in Co-op, which seems to be the strength of the series.

I do have Lego City Undercover for the Wii U, but haven't played it yet. What are the newer games like?

There's been some getting a feel for the brand and it hasn't always been in a positive direction, but I think TT has really come into it, improved, and are consistently refining and perfecting the formula. It's pretty iterative by now, but not in a bad way. Besides LEGO City Undercover, LEGO Jurassic World is probably their best game to date.

The new games are like the old games, but a more wholesome, refined, and feature-rich experience. LEGO City Undercover is to LEGO Star Wars as Super Mario World is to Super Mario Bros.

I really liked Lego Marvel. My son and I 100% that one. The story was a unique story, it didn't follow any movie or show and had alot of Marvel charters. The hub world was great too as it is an open world New York City and felt more like a GTA game more then a hub world if that made sense. If you are a Marvel fan or Lego fan I recommend checking out that one if you haven't already.

I've played a lot of the LEGO games, LCU is one of, if not THE, best (Even rates very highly on my favourite games of all time). Also check out the LEGO Batman series.

I'll just chuck out my random Lego game thoughts here;

I really enjoy them but I think people round here have been a bit snooty towards and I've been told on this forum they don't count as games.

It's a shame they don't do the DLC with the Wii U versions as it's meant I didn't pick up Lego Batman 3 yet as I really wanted the Batman Beyond DLC and I'm waiting for a steam sale.

Personally I see Lego Indiana Jones as the most under rated of the series as collecting studs is a perfect match for a game about a treasure hunter and it's always good to have Nazis as baddies in any game.

I've played many demos of LEGO games and while I find them quite fun, I haven't been able to bring myself to buy one yet, lol.

The only demo I didn't care for was the 3DS version of LEGO Marvel, where I think the levels were timed for some reason.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Yeah, Lego the Movie, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, and one of the Lego Batman games (probably 3) were the ones I was thinking of most when I made this thread. They look the coolest. I'm not a big Indiana Jones fan (if only because the only IJ movie I ever watched was The Crystal Skull), but arronishere has a point about it being a good fit for these kinda games.

...also, there are demoes? I might have to try one...

The 3DS is filled with dozens demos but on the Wii U I think (but not sure) there's only Lego Marvel but tbh if you've already got City Undercover then there's no need for a demo, it's one of the better (possibly best) Lego games. Also watch Raiders Of The Lost Ark, it's considered one of the greatest films ever made for a reason!

Does anyone think it's odd they are releasing Lego Avengers after Lego Marvel? It just seems like a step backwards from having all of the Marvel characters to just the ones in the current movies & shows and I don't see characters from Agents of SHIELD as a real/equal replacement for the likes of X-Men & Fantastic Four.

I've not been taken by the LEGO games but, out of recognition that LCU on the Wii U is so well thought of (but expensive) I took a punt on the 3DS version and have to say I think it's better than many give it credit for. There's little in the way of difficulty, but it's still pretty fun.

One issue I had with the first LEGO Marvel game was the eclectic cast. Even if they do exist in the same universe (I think - aren't there a huge number of different Marvel universes?), for me who is at most peripherally interested in Marvel that was too much. But maybe for those who take Marvel more seriously it was better that way?

I can't fathom how character variety could ever possibly be considered a problem in a video game.

It's no different to Lego Batman or Star Wars, Marvel has a huge cast to play with so they included as many as possible most of which you choose to unlock if you want to after the story mode has finished, it's not as if you're forced to unlock Stan Lee or Deadpool to complete the game and most enjoyed getting 100% complete as it felt more rewarding to pick up characters they knew rather than generic henchman which has been the case in other Lego games.

@CanisWolfred I would've preferred the story focusing on either Avengers, X-Men or Fantastic Four in the story, rather than mix-and-matching the characters.

Pretty sure some of the X-Men and the Fantastic Four ARE Avengers in the comics. Since this isn't film, Marvel can do whatever they want with their characters, which means putting them all together. If Marvel still had the film rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four, you can bet they'd already be in the Avengers movies.

Well then you haven't played a Lego game, I'm kidding of course.

A large cast doesn't hinder the game anyhow but there were times playing the early Star Wars games where I felt like some characters were throw-away, akin to a palette swap. This feeling in large part was due to the one or two abilities a character might possess. I just ended up sticking with iconic characters that felt unique and powerful (most importantly).

That's still not an issue, though. You don't have to play as everybody. You still get choices, so you can stick with the characters you want to play as. I usually stick with 4 or 5 characters in Street Fighter. That doesn't mean it's bad there are 40 other characters I can play as but choose not to.

Ironically I get what Pavhi meant about it convoluting the story more than how it would affect anything gameplay-wise. I honestly forgot that the newer Lego games have stories with voice acting and everything.

Tbh after Lego Batman 2 I was grateful they were mixing up characters in Marvel, I would look at the cover and see Green Lantern, Wondy, Flash etc and wonder why I couldn't play as them as it was mostly every level as Batman and Robin over and over again til the last few levels with occasional appearances from Supes in the middle.

I'm a mature gamer, and I absolutely love the LEGO games - I've completed them all 100% (except for The Hobbit, which I didn't buy as it lacks the whole last "chapter" WTF?).

LEGO Jurassic World and the original Star Wars Trilogy (Eps 4-6) are probably my faves - possibly as I really enjoy the original franchises that they are based on more than some of the others. LEGO City UnderCover was totally awesome too though - I've never laughed so much at dialogue in a game before.

I must say though that some of the bugs and glitches from the early games still appear in the newer ones, which can be incredibly frustrating, sometimes requiring you to abort whole levels as characters get stuck in scenery or items are not usable etc.

But keep 'em coming I say.

Now LEGO Dimensions - not sure about that. I'd rather full games based on franchises than several mini-games, but they might work really well. Obviously, we'll find out soon enough

I know kung-fu... and plumbing? A heap of pop culture references in the game, I love it. The music was pretty good too, and I thought the final part of the story was epic.
