I can't believe I hadn't noticed their downward spiral. I realized the new Castlevania games had been panned by fans and critics, and The Phantom Pain and Yugioh cards were the only two things I had heard they were making.

Legit question: What does Konami even do these days? All I can really think of is mediocre Castlevania games and amazing looking Metal Gear Solid games.

Have Kojima work solely on Metal Gear, turn Castlevania from cutting edge 2D masterpieces into derivative 3D garbage, and Yu-Gi-Oh.
man, those japanese game companies and their money-printing pachinko machines that make them lazy on the videogame department.... :/

does konami make the Yu-Gi-Oh! games or only publish them?
Both, Knomai makes the cards and owns the IP as well.
Well, they are working on a Yu-gi-oh game for 3DS. Maybe they think that's a big game. They could make an AR/NFC card game if they really wanted to.
Well we all know this isn't happening. I admit programming the mechanics of every card will take a while, but they've historically never went beyond what they needed to in a Yu-gi-oh game.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

They are working on a Yu-gi-oh game, but the AR/NFC cards for any such game probably aren't happening. They could re-release cards specifically for the game along new cards, but I agree with you that that probably isn't happening. I jsut figured I'd bring up that possibility, since that's one of the few games Konami is working on.

The one thing i can praise Konami for is that they successfully sued that lousy kids channel 4Kids for the Yu Gi Oh license. Hooray for no more terrible English dubs of anime!
Konami didn't sue 4Kids.
4Kids was sued by TV Tokyo and Nihon for violating the Yu Gi Oh license and making illegal distribution/royalty deals (the suit was ultimately settled after 4K filed for bankruptcy).
Later, a Konami subsidiary company (called 4K Acquistions) bid for the Yu Gi Oh rights, which they eventually acquired.
I miss the Konami from the 90s. They were the stuff back then. I just wish Konami would just sell their IPs since they have been doing absolutely nothing with them.

Seriously. Konami made some really great IPs from the 80's and 90's. Heck, even the 2000s had some great games from them too. Now they all sit dormant collecting dust, or they're ruined by lousy game design (Castlevania).

Like Contra, which was arguably one of the most popular co-op games of the NES era, that they just sorta...forgot about.
I'm actually surprised Contra lasted as long as it did considering it lost all relevence in the 32-bit era. I mean, Shattered Soldiers, Contra 4, Rebirth, and Hard Corps Uprising were all good, but they didn't sell well IIRC.
