I'd have laugh harder until my stomach hurts if Konami actually held the conference, spending 90 mins only on Phantom Pain and ignoring the rest of their IPs. I'm pretty sure Castlevania isn't coming back since Iga left and MercySteam said that Lords of Shadow 2 would be the last one from them, ZOE 3 being scarped, and no one knows what happen to Contra when they tease it way back when for the 3DS. We know Konami relies heavily on MGS since that is the only the series they haven't ruined and keeps them from becoming irrelevant. I'm very curious on what can Konami possibly do once Phantom Pain is released?

Hahah great question. They prolly gonna roll around in all the money PP will inevitably make.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

Konami's fall from grace over the past generation or so hasn't been pretty, and it's been rather sad to watch.

This was the company of Castlevania, of Metal Gear, of Silent Hill, of Suikoden, of Contra, of Goemon, of Gradius. Not to mention Frogger, their classic TMNT games, DDR, TwinBee, Sparkster, Boktai and Zone of the Enders. Heck, you can throw in all of Hudson Soft's IPs too, which they've done precisely nothing with. Less than a handful of other icons of the industry can even begin to compare to the variety, quality and scope of their backlog.

And now they're... this. Aside from MGS, all of those series are either dead, long-dormant, mobile shells of themselves or completely unrecognizable. Capcom has (deservedly) received a lot of heat for how they've treated their brands over the past five years, but Konami makes them look like Nintendo by comparison. In fairness, The Phantom Pain looks absolutely fantastic, though I credit that more to Kojima Productions maintaining creative control over it than to Konami proper - and Ground Zeroes showed that even Metal Gear is hardly safe from the publisher's toxic influence.

Wow... all I can say is Konami? Konaaammi?! KKKOOONNNAAMMII!!!!!!!

Capcom at E3: Guys we're sorry about how we've been treating Mega Man so we're gonna make it up to you by releasing the Mega Man Cancelled Collection with all the titles we cancelled in the condition they we're in just before we pulled the plug. Now who wants Street Fighter X Monster Hunter?

Konami is dead to me since when they disbanded team Suikoden

Konami buying Hudson was one of the worst moves I've seen. They never did anything with their IPs, they just bought Hudson for the extra man power it could add to the company. On the other hand, Bomberman hadn't seen a proper game in ages either, and the franchise was already crumbling. I guess it's better to finish it off quickly, than to see it suffer and trying to sell with horrible party games.

It's sad watching several of the gaming companies I've grown up with either slowly falling apart or becoming a shadow of their former selves. It sucks seeing companies who made such good games in the past just give up on that.

Looking at what actually happened better. They found something that wasn't properly advertised officially. Konami changed their mind about doing it (Hence the no publicity about it).

Them doing Lords of Shadow is a much bigger insult to me than this.

2010 was the last decent year of Konami.

I saw the countdown and was very confused over why it was ticking down to 3 A.M PDT, plus Konami hadn't even announced that they would have any conference beforehand.

The whole case is just baffling.

We need to go back to the Lagrange Point! (was that actually a fan-design game?!)

Have they even made Goemon games in awhile (not that it matters too much to most of us, since the west rarely sees them).
I would say Parodius, but that franchise been ruined, turned into either pachislot or breasts-fantasy.

I don't know why I didn't see the warning signs. I remember enjoying Konami a ton back in the PS1 gen. Felt like time flew by and before I knew it, they ran almost every IP they had into the ground (Castlevania, Silent Hill) or just stopped making them entirely (Suikoden).

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

CanisWolfred

Suikoden was on a downward trend, too, with Tierkris and the PSP game being notably worse than the earlier entries, and I believe they had a mobile entry in the works. They would've ran it into the ground with only a few more games if given the chance...just be happy they stopped when they did.

The opinion I've heard is that it peaked with the first couple of games. Considering how that series started on the PS1...that makes a lot of sense to me.

I've actually heard that:

The first game is decent, but a bit archaic. I'd agree with that.
The second is great, yet plagued with glitches and translation errors.
The Third is fantastic all around.
The 4th is pretty boring in comparison to earlier entries.
Tactics was a decent tactics game that arguably justifies the 4th's existance.
The Fifth is either the best in the series, or the worst, depending on who you ask...
Tierkris was almost as bad as 4 and doesn't do much to continue the story.
The PSP game was kinda bad and not really worth playing.

Only hearsay of course, I've only played the first...

Yep, Konami is pretty much a husk of its former self. I actually don't have the slightest clue what they do anymore aside from Metal Gear and the odd Castlevania. I'm sure thats the main reason Kojima keeps doing Metal Gear even after claiming he wants to quite, if he did Konami would just hand it over to somebody else and milk it for all its worth, so he probably keeps going with it to keep that from happening. I'd certainly like to see what else he can do, last time he did we got Boktai.

Konami is too utterly stupid to realize they have the Bomberman IP, its pretty much a Guarnteed seller on any digital platform like Tetriis.

Its funny because post buy out Hudsonsoft was really ahead of the curve when it came to digital releases mostly on the Wii. We got from them

Bomberman Live
Star Soldier R
Bomberman Blast
Alien Crush Returns
Tetris Party
My Aquarium
Cue Sports: Snooker vs Billiards
Pit Crew Panic!
Pop Them, Drop Them, SameGame
Snowboard Riot
Onslaught
Water Warfare
Adventure Island: The Beginning
Military Madness: Nectaris
Diner Dash

Than Konami bought them and didn't do anything with them. Honestly I feel that with the expectation of Metal gear and pes Konami could transition into nice digital publisher by framing out their IP to indies or smaller work for hire companies.

Tierkreis didn't even take place in the same universe as the mainline series, so aside from the lite "108 Stars of Destiny" trappings, it was merely a Suikoden game in name only. Other than its excellent soundtrack, it really was just an average, inoffensive and completely forgettable turn-based RPG.

I've been wondering WTF Konami has been doing, for a while... Why they won't use more of their assets and the Hudson IPs is beyond me.
