Topic: Is Sonic the hedgehog really important for the gaming industry?

I dunno. He's really cool and my personal favorite game character alongside Mario as well but people lost a lot of faith in him lately and I know there's already a thread I made earlier but this one is sort of different like will Sonic Boom make a difference to the franchise? Is Sonic really the only thing Sega can make money out of. Do we really want Sonic to be gone for good?

Sonic is a freaking icon in the gaming industry. He shouldn't go away at all. Give Sega time. They will eventually make an amazing Sonic game. They are experimenting with him cuz they wanna try new stuff.

Sonic is the most creative franchise out there that still manages to be reasonably popular. It's important to me, that's for sure. It sold me the GBA, the PS3, and, had it not been for Pikmin 3 and my inevitable desire to play that, the Wii U.

You have a better chance at waiting for Nintendo to localise Mother 3.

I think they exhausted all their chances on making him relevant anymore. Anyone who still clings to him are mostly diehard fans

Because there was this thing shown a few months ago where Sonic was like the 10th best selling series of the past decade or something.

But of course relevance and success aren't always the same thing, but I think Color and Generations brought the series back in a positive light for a while.

He's relevant, but most fans very melodramatic about the state of the franchise at this point. Exaggerating how "bad"X game was or how "perfect" Y game was. I've gone on this rant before, I'm not doing it again. It's the fans of the franchise that's the problem really.
Though fans like Cobi, Clement, BlazeHedgehog, and Somecallmejohnny do earn my respect at least, as they seem very reasonable about whether or not a game was bad.

Sega released how many Sonic games in the past decade? Perhaps an average number would be better...

Nintendo tends to make games and then figure out which of it's multiple IP to attach to it. Sega has the problem of having a very strong solitary remaining IP in Sonic that it tries to build games around that are hideously flawed because they can't figure out how to incorporate the speed factor.
