Topic: Is Bioshock scary?

I have no problem watching scary films. In fact, with the exception of when I was just a wittle baby chick, I've never seen one that gave me nightmares or spooked me so bad I had to quit halfway through.

But scary video games are a whole other story...

Anyway, I noticed you can get Oblivion (which I sort of wanted, at least to try) and Bioshock (which I heard is great) in one package for like $40. But if I end up not being able to play Bioshock because of the terror factor, I might as well just find a used copy of Oblivion on its own.

So, no spoilers or anything, but for those who have played BS (unfortunate abbreviation there...), how would you rank its TERRIFYING SCARINESS?

Well, Bioshock does have some spooky moments (seeing and hearing a Big Daddy for the first time springs to mind), but I wouldn't call it that scary. More eerie and atmospheric than anything else. Honestly, you're missing out on one of the best games of all time if you avoid it.

it isn't that scary... some closet monsters, and yeah mostly atmospheric, but that's it...

oh, and if your PC can run it, I must suggest you grab it on Direct2Drive's sale for $5.00, cheaper than on any other plattform:

plus, you can connect an Xbox 360 controller to your PC and play it just like the console version (360 controller comes preconfigured)... using a controller instead of Mouse and Keyboard will reduce the "immersiveness" of the gameplay lol

Good morning Chicken B.
Bioshock has some scary moments here and there. I was skeptical about this title too at first but I gave it a shot. I would rank the scary factor a 8/10. The freakiness doesn't last long and it will grow on you. There are other games that are scarier such as Silent Hill. $40 for 2 Game of the Year is a steal. Bioshock's story is very well written. Chicken B. I say go for it. You can ask your fellow chickens to come over and watch you play.

Not really. The only things that are actually scary in the game are when the times you have to enter a dark room and splicers come out of nowhere and splicers attacking you from around the corner.

So many good games, so little money to spend.

Okay, so, from what I'm gathering, the "scariness" seems to be down to atmosphere (which I can appreciate in an artistic sense) and a few "Boo!" moments of something popping out from the shadows. I can probably handle that...

I'm also glad to hear it's nowhere near as scary as Silent Hill. Without realizing it when I asked my question, I think that's what I was hoping to hear.

Awesome. Will pick it up this weekend, I think. Thanks guys!

Bioshock compared to Dead Space is like comparing a Chicken with KFC. That answer your question

Really its not scary its just the artistic design of the game is very creepy. When you first enter Rapture it will really creep you out but it quickly turns into I want to see more because of great gameplay and insane design. My favorite game of all time.

I've also have been thinking about buying this game as I've seen it really cheap but was put off by the amount of time I'd have to invest in it seeing as I'm already playing Fallout 3 and GoW 1+2 plus I'm probably gonna get FIFA10 soon too.How long does it take to complete the main game (i'm not an acheivement hunter) but roughly how many hours for the story mode?
I've downloaded the demo and I'm gonna try it tonight

Bioshock is NOT scary. It's awesome. The amount of design that went into the game is amazing.

To be honest, Oblivion is slightly more scary just because sometimes you're in a dark cave and you can't use your torch or else the enemy will see you and attack.

The main story is about 15hrs long. You will play straight thru it too. Ive got a big problem with playin way too many games and Bioshock put Fallout 3 aside for a couple of weeks. I loved Fallout as well and will be starting up some DLC soon.

Cheers man.Well thing is I've only just started Fallout and I'm lovin it so I'm not sure I can put it down just yet I think I'll leave Bioshock for a bit then until I can dedicate it my full attention (i've also got LKS on Wii on the go too ) unless the demo hooks me tonight

I'm playing Bioshock right now and I haven't found it scary. It's one of the most immersive games I have ever played. I highly recommend it, especially with the sequel coming out in February.

Not scary. Occasionally creepy or freaky and highly atmospheric, but nothing even close to approaching the SIlent Hill or Fatal Frame games.

Do yourself a favor and pick them up. Two of the best games of the last 5 years, hands down. Of course, my nearly 400+ hours put into Oblivion may make me a bit biased. =)

I didn't find it that scary.
Like The Fox says, there are some spooky moments in the game (the Medical Pavilion gave me the shivers at points), but overall, there really is nothing that will make you jump out of your chair and say, "oh crap!"
It's a really good game, and I found the atmosphere to be perfect. The fact that you're underwater makes it not only creepy, but it gives you a sort of "there's nobody coming to save me" feeling

Scary' No not all.
It has a great atmosphere and art direction yes but not scary.
The game is more about action simmilar but not the same as Resident evil 4.
Is a very cool game. If I had an xbox I'll buy it for sure.

I played the demo, and it does start out really creepy and kind of scary. But I think it will get better as you get into it more, and just get used to seeing some things. I personally preferred when it wasn't dark because the dark really creeped me out in that game.

@Luigi... Fallout 3 is a great one. I put about 120+ hrs into it and that is goin to count up higher when I add-on the DLC

Well I played the demo earlier today and at it is creepy at first but nothing too bad, but once I got a wrench and pistol I wasn't scared of nothing The weird little girl was pretty creepy though Definitely getting this once I clear my backlog a bit, I really wanted to play some more after that demo.
