Topic: Im planning on getting the ps3 slim. Who else is planning to do the same?

i am finaly trying to get my hands on a different console other than nintendo, but nintendo will still be my fav, and will never touch an xbox(they suck, 50% failure rate? not for me), so i decided to get a ps3 slim because of the price drop and new disign will be big enough to fit in the empty space in my TV stand! and some of the games i want are only for ps3!

Me too. I have an XBOX360 and it has been fine, but now I want a PS3 because it has BluRay and good graphics. Also, most games that come out for 360 come out for PS3 as well..

I am defindently getting an PS3 Slim, perferably by Christmas. The lowered price, 120 GB, and it's features attracts me big time.

Also, I'm tired of being an Wii-only owner.

I've been thinking about it too, but really, I still have lots of Wii games to play. I can barely buy all the Wii games I want, it'll be even worse if I get a PS3. Also, I want it mostly to play fighters (Street Fighter, Tekken, KOF, Virtua Fighter, etc.). I still don't know if I should get a new lap top or a PS3...

I'm getting a slim-line PS3 and a PSPgo at the same time- sometime this October. I like the idea of playing a PS3 game on my PSPgo while my friend uses the television.

I am hoping to buy it around xmas. SInce my parents wont buy it for me, im going to ask for giftcards. Then with those cards i will buy it anyway lol. I want the blu ray it has too. And the wii can still be there for great games (the few it has) while the ps3 will be there for great games + great graphics + great features for one great price value. Itll be swell

Maybe. I already have the two other systems and I don't know if I can muster enough justification to get another. More of a cost issue than anything else (system, games and periperals add up quick).

Well i just want one incase my ps3 phat overheats, a back up if you will.Instead of spending the money on that i have an option for a 360.I might just get the 360,as two ps3's wouldn't add variety .

Yeah, for €299,- and actually being able to fit it in my TV stand, i might as well pick one up one of these days.

The failure rate has dropped significantly since the Jasper chip was installed (don't think it eliminates it completely though).

Can it play PS2 games? Heck, what is different about the Slim in general? All I've heard is it's smaller (duh..) and cheaper. Any other advantages?

@Popyman Nope, PS2 support was nixed back in '07. Though they have patented emulation technology, who knows if we'll see it. There is PS1 support, but I'm not sure if that's only though the online store or if you can actually pop a PS1 disc in it (clarification would be great!).
As far as hardware goes, they got rid of 2 usb ports and the card reader, and replaced the touch sensitive buttons with regular push buttons. They also removed the 'install other OS' feature, which is a real bummer.
Overall it is 33% smaller, 36% lighter and consumes 34% less power.

Cheaper is a biiiig advantage lol, at least to me, $100 isnt easy to come by when you're saving lol

Actually, Sony lied.

It in fact uses less than half the power of the PS3 Phat no matter what it's doing, and when it's in standby mode, it's about 70% more efficient.

Oh please, even if it were ugly, it's better to have 120 GB while paying $100-200 less for it, a more power-efficient machine, and one that's absolutely whisper-quiet. And it isn't ugly irl. The front part is shiny and that's really all you see. I mean, you turn the Slim sideways and it disappears.

If I didn't already have my 60GB PS3 I would have definitely gotten one.

The extra GB doesn't matter at all to someone that already has one.

I don't even hear my current PS3.

I don't want my PS3 to disappear, I'd constantly be worrying about someone turning it sideways.

I hate efficiency.
