Topic: Ideas for the next 2D Mario game

I've just thought of some ideas for the next 2D Mario game:

LIST HAS BEEN UPDATED!

• Includes a level editor. You can share custom levels with friends online, or submit them to Nintendo for certain "design contests."
• Use Star Coins to purchase more level parts.
• There are 4 Star Coins in each level.
• Find the hidden Music Note in each level to unlock 8-bit versions of the game music.
• 4-player online/offline co-op.
• Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, and Toad are bosses that have been hypnotized by Bowser.
• Once you defeat them, the hypnosis fades away and they become playable characters.
• Luigi can jump higher, but has less traction when running.
• Wario has his shoulder bash and butt-stomp moves.
• Waluigi can stretch his body to reach high places. He attacks with a tennis racket and golf club.
• Toad is very spongy. Other players can bounce off his head like a spring.
• Some bonus rooms are hidden behind character-specific doors.
• When you open a door, the camera moves "through" the door into the new room.
• Special "B" blocks send you into the background, while "F" blocks send you into the foreground.
• Yoshi can be taken to any level, much like in Super Mario World.
• Colored switches return (Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, White, and Black). They activate colored blocks in levels.
• Yoshi can hold the colored blocks in his mouth, giving him new abilities.
• Red blocks allow Yoshi to spit fireballs.
• Blue blocks allow Yoshi to walk on liquid water as if it were ice.
• Green blocks allow Yoshi to burrow through the ground.
• Yellow blocks make Yoshi glow, allowing him to navigate dark areas.
• White blocks allow Yoshi to walk through certain walls.
• Black blocks are like bombs, when Yoshi spits one out, all onscreen enemies instantly die.
• P-switches return. They transform bricks into coins, and vice versa.
• The Tanooki Suit, Frog Suit, and Boomerang Suit all return, with all of their abilities intact.
• Kuribo's Shoe (Goomba's Shoe) returns. Use it to safely walk over spikes and certain enemies.
• Yoshi can eat other playable characters and spit them out like projectiles.
• Only Mario and Luigi can ride Yoshi. If another character finds Yoshi, he stays in his egg.
• Single, giant world map to explore, with individual levels scattered about.
• The Star Road (from Super Mario World) returns, but it is hidden.
• Levels in the Star Road are significantly harder than normal levels. Enemies kill you in one hit.

Those are some pretty good ideas. I definitly want to see more Yoshi. I want to see another Yoshi game with him as the star.
hmm...the Kirby cameo seemed out of place but now that I think about it, seems pretty cool, like something I'm suprised didn't happen in the NES days or something, ya know? With games like that Wario and Bomberman game anyway.

Kind of thought the same thing Knux (nice avatar by the way). Not really sure what I think of that idea.
I would like to see some new stuff though. Mario 3D Land was a really good game, dont' get me wrong, but I feel like I've played through it before ya know what I mean?

Now THAT'S an idea...only bad thing is it wouldn't last very long...they should at least make it look like Mario's face or something....am I really going on and on about this?

A great set of ideas! Although, I think the red blocks should make Yoshi spit fireballs rather than turn into one and if its going to have levels with enemies that one hit kill you, I think the game should have difficulty levels with one hit kills only being possible on the hardest difficulty setting.

The one hit kills are only in the Star Road levels.

Some of your ideas are great, However, I wouldn't want to mix the Wario Land series, and the Kirby series. And Luigi's traction is supposed to be a con, while his running is a pro. I also don't like the character accessability. I don't ever want to be forced as a character to get a star coin or to beat a level. The theme in each level is also what makes SMB fun and levels flash out. I wouldn't want a medley of different features in one level. SMB is also not supposed to be problem solving. Where you can only get passed if you have the following ability. And enemies killing you in one hit is also not good.I like how each enemy gives the same amount of damage. This feels like a Mario and Kirby crossover, with some extra parts that's not either. But your ideas do sound fun... just not for Mario

I'm guessing you haven't played Super Mario 3D Land or Super Mario World? Both of those games had a nice variety of different levels.

Enemies killing you in one hit is only for the Star Road levels. Think of it as a set of extra hard levels.

Without character accessibility, what would be the point of having different characters with their own special moves?

Super Mario World had plenty of areas that you couldn't reach unless you activated a certain colored switch.
