I love Mario and I just want to say that I'm a huge mario fan. But I haven't gotten all the Mario games cause well, its impossible for one thing and most of them are more suited for multiplayer like Mario Kart DS which is why I haven't gotten that game because after playing Mario Party DS, I know I can't get any fun for myself.
What I do have however are the entire Super Mario series(With the exception of Yoshi's island and DS and some spin offs even though I played it, the RPG era, Mario VS Donkey Kong era and some few Mario spin-offs here and there like Wario and Donkey Kong.
This has really puzzled me but how can one be a true Mario fan?
if you love Mario games that's enough if someone calls you a poser they're the posers for thinking they can say who has the title or not.

Why you made a thread for this baffles me. I think you're making questions of things that shouldn't be questions. If you were to ask how someone can be a true Hitler fan then there is a question cause no one should. Plus how are any of these Nintendo topics other gaming related?

How am I supposed to know? Is there a book I can read where it can teach me how to be a 'true fan' of, well, anything?
Speaking of which, I should write a book on how to not take video games seriously. Chapter 5: There's a difference between being a fan and being in a cult.

this has to be Chapter 1 and even so it might be too late for the reader

Vote with your paycheck, and CALL OUT NINTENDO AND MIYAMOTO when they make the same game or pull troll moves. They're trying to kill 2D Mario again, and have been since after Wii. All the good stuff that 2D Mario fans wanted is going to 3D games. I understand that they really want players to play their 3D outings but lets face it. Tandoori tail goes to super Mario land, nsmb2 is about coins. Nsmb music won't change, the setting keeps limiting itself. If they don't expand and build on the Mushroom Kingdom in the NSMB games people will stop buying them. Mario 2 was a success n the West because it changed it up! People don't want level packs. Mario 3 the biggest success of all.
In comparison, NSMB had a fresh look that quickly got stale. Sequelitis at its worst.
In this most recent case, New Super Luigi U is worth getting, but I condone New Super Mario U as just a level pack in HD. New Super Mario Bros. 2 was WTF status.
So right now Nintendo is in trouble once again, trouble they haven't faced since the Gamecube days. They need mass market games or they will be irrellevant.
I don't hate the 3D games, but I expect a certain level of quality from all Mario games. Super Mario Galaxy with new super mario bros made Mario cool again. If Nintendo ruins 2D Mario, Nintendo itself will go belly up
I do wonder if there's a secret underground Super Mario cult....hmmm
yeah but to enter you have to be able to break bricks above you(while jumping), eat weird unknown mushrooms and pass the final test(dropping a huge turtle into a lava pit)

You must wear a red shirt and blue overalls for the rest of your life, apply for a job as a plumber until you die, switch to a 100% mushroom and cake diet, buy the entire DVD set of the Super Mario Super Show, constantly chant Shigeru Miyamoto's name for 3 hours every morning, and onnly then can you become a huge Mario fan.

Gain a lot of weight. Grow a mustache. Wear a red shirt, red hat, some overalls and work boots. Enjoy Mario games.
That is how you become a huge Mario fan.
