That would cripple Konami, but certainly would be freeing for Kojima. Metal Gear Solid was supposed to end almost a decade ago, and they cancelled just about every Non-Metal Gear related project he had going since 2006, so the question really isn't "is he leaving Konami?" as much as, "why didn't he leave Konami sooner?"
If he really does go, I wonder if he'll take all of his KojiPro staff with him. That's a highly talented studio there.
More than any other studio losing key staff though, this would hurt Konami's game production something fierce. What do they even have outside of KojiPro? Bad Castlevania reboots, disappointing Silent Hill games, and a graveyard of old unused IP? The only other worthwhile employee at Konami I can think of is Igarashi, who has been doing nothing since what, Order of Ecclesia?

Gamespot's "inside source" seems to be saying he's not the only one leaving. So perhaps?
Also, didn't Igarashi leave already? I thought he had a kickstarter and everything...EDIT: Yes. EDIT 2: Er, sort of...
Good luck, Kojima. If Sony doesn't snatch him and his crew up then I would be shocked. Unless Kojima runs to Nintendo to try something or vice versa.
I doubt Sony wants to create a whole new studio that would be a big investment from a tech level for a game that wouldn't be out for sometime. I'm thinking the Orde and the PS4 gen has really burned them on these expensive techfests.
Nintendo likewise is moving into some very uncharted waters for the company so I can't see them putting up with a guy who makes expensive tech heavy games when they have their toes into other markets. Honestly whatever Kojipro does next will probably be self published or picked up by a big third party developer.
Its interesting that while the Indie game and developer craze hasn't hit Japan as it has the rest of the industry, that a lot of notable names in Japanese game development have left to do their own thing.
The Clover Studios guys left and formed Platnium Games who have been doing well.
Inafune has left and put out a few games under his new studio.
From Software is Independent
IGA left Konami and teased a kickstarter for a Castlevaina styled game that's on the backburner I guess.
Sakaguchi left Square to form Mistwalker
Shingi Mikami is working out of his new studio with Bethesda making horror games.
Ikatki left Tecmo to do Devil's Third
Yuji Naka left Sega to make games with Prope.
Futatsugi left grounding and made Sakura Samurai and Crimson Dragon.

What a trend... what a trend...

Yeah Miyamoto hasn't been directly involved with Mario and Zelda for a while now. He just oversees them. I imagine he could work on a game from either franchise if he so desires though.
Konami has been almost willfully determined to become a sad husk of its former glory for a long while know. That they could potentially chase off the one thing that they still have going for them is unsurprising.
Let's not forget Takahashi and several others leaving Square to form Monolith Soft.
Kojima is obviously going to join Sora and work with Sakurai on a new game where they massively troll the entire industry
Hahahaha Kojima running to Nintendo to create a Wii U exclusive would be amazing but... He really should be calling Sony. Can they even afford him and his team? Maybe, maybe not. Konami is being very dumb...

Keep in mind that Sora is independent like Game Freak. Sakurai can develop for any platform (a Wii U or NX exclusive would be nice though!). If Sakurai and Kojima worked together on a game, it would see the most glorious trolling in gaming history.

Isn't Sora literally just 2 staff though? Game Freak can actually develop games on their own. Sora is more like Mistwalker in that they require out of house developers on every project they do.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
There goes any chance of finally getting a ZOE 3 or another Lunar Knights :/
Though ultimately I feel he made the right choice. He's been wanting to break away from Metal Gear for a while and make something new, but continuing to work at Konami wasn't going to get him anywhere

Um, no, we never had a chance of those games happening while he was under Konami. Seriously, He tried, Konami kept rejecting and/or cancelling them. If anything, this would far increase the chances of us having such games, just with different names.
I hope whatever he does will be successful. The Metal Gear series is one of my favorites of all time. Few people have developed an ongoing saga with the depth that series has.
But it isn't like MG can't continue without him. He basically let Platinum do whatever they wanted with Revengence, and it succeeded not only in being incredibly fun with lots of replay value, but they actually made Raiden a likable character!
I do look forward to Phantom Pain on PC, but I am still irritated by Kiefer Sutherland being the voice of Snake.
