That's all I'm here to say today, it's all the reason I've logged in today after all this inactivity. It's been 10 years since the Dreamcast launched. All those years ago, being wowed by the demo of Sonic Adventure at Toys 'R Us and playing my friend's sister's boyfriend's Dreamcast and Crazy Taxi, seeing a Japanese commercial for Chu Chu Rocket on the internet (I downloaded it, somewhere... this was before YouTube and the popularity of embedding videos, remember those days?), and getting one as a Christmas gift.

As most of you hopefully remember, the Dreamcast, like a lot of Sega stuff, was dangerously ahead of it's time. Just now are we able to browse the internet on our consoles, but the Dreamcast had it before the Gamecube, PS2, and Xbox were even around, much less Wii, PS3, and 360. Online gaming itself was taken seriously from the get go, with heavy hitters like Phantasy Star Online and Chu Chu Rocket. Not to mention, the VMU. The days of memory cards are over, and so the VMU has earned what may be a permanent fixture in gaming history as the indisputable greatest memory card ever made. You could play mini-games on the go, have a personal screen during gameplay for multiplayer games, each game had it's own little screen on the VMU, link up with other VMU's for games and trading saves, or even set an alarm and manage your saves. Sadly, a lot of it's potential was never tapped, but the GC-GBA connectivity in games like Pac-Man Vs continued showed us a little more of what could have been.

The Dreamcast homebrew scene was very big, thanks to the incredible ease of burning and playing any CD-R, and was probably the biggest to date. It really started what's still going on with the likes of Gamepark, DS, PSP, and of course Wii, which are all pretty incredible homebrew platforms.

Unfortunately, the Dreamcast died a tragically early and unpredictable death, but because of it's cult fanbase and in part because it just died waaaay too early, it's been kept alive in the background with periodic homebrew releases, as well as private servers for games like Phantasy Star Online (which has also been kept alive on Gamecube, Xbox, and PC), which in turn has made the broadband adapter a little coveted. X_X

So today, predictably, I'm gonna put Hexen 64 on hiatus and play way too much Chu Chu Rocket with my friends, among other things. Just when you thought I was back again, I'm gone like it's 1999. Did I just say Hexen 64? I pulled out my Dreamcast out only two months ago to play some MvC2 and Garou. (and by pull out, I mean took the cords and plugged them in, the Dreamcast never moved). I mostly play Virtual Console on the Wii, and the last thing I played on Wii was Herzog Zwei with a friend via a Genesis emulator. I'm not even sure me and this millennium are well-met at all!

Talk about Dreamcast here all you want. I'm sure if there's a gaming god (and he probably looks a lot like Segata Sanshiro), he'd be pretty miserable (read: vengeful) if this place didn't end up FLOODED with Dreamcast topics by the end of the day. Just remember, my Dreamcast topic is the best one.

We can only hope that we eventually see the Sega Dreamcast on the Virtual Console. It's too bad I never got to experience it.

Yep, I loved the Dreamcast and foolishly sold it so that I can have enough money for the Wii...damn I need a time machine so I can go back in time and stop myself from doing that. I had the limited Sega Sports edition as well!

I've gotta say too anyone who owns a Dreamcast get Samba De Amigo,it's so fun & addictive!

I got a good bundle a year ago with the game and maracas for 60 bucks, but the maracas don't work anymore But despite what people say, I think it's still fun with the controllers in a different kind of way.

I love the Dreamcast. I just got it last year or so, and I've been hooked ever since. It's definitely the best fighting and shooter of all time, and still stands as my 2nd favorite system of all time.

That's why you're still a kid.

I got my Dreamcast in the 7th grade (almost 3 years ago) and got Soul Calibur with it. One of my greatest video game memories was recieving it in the mail, getting REALLY excited, bringing it up to the nice looking relaxation room in my house, turning it on, and, besides dinner, spending the whole day up there playing Soul Calibur. The DC also came with like 10 other games, but Calibur was all I cared about! Such a great memory, I wish I could go back and re-live that nostalgic day in my gaming life. Happy Birthday Dreamcast

I snagged my DC at launch 9-9-99 with SA, and TNN Hardcore Heat. TNN was garbage, but SA was sweet.

I won my 2nd DC from an internet radio (XGR, I think it was) contest, with a 2nd copy of UT.

A third DC came my way thanks to a fellow gamer that neglected their DC. They knew I'd take good care of it and gave it to me for free. (A few years ago.)

Nowadays, I still play my Dreamcasts, along with the rest of my consoles. (Except PS2, that is my only console that is not hooked up.)

I've been spreading word at college about the big 10. So far, two instructors knew what a Dreamcast is, and all of the students I told knew the DC.
I'm kind of late posting this because I've been Dreamcasting. Happy 10th year, American SEGA Dreamcast.

I got mine this year about a month ago! One of my friends got it off Ebay becuase I was talking about it and then he spent like $50 on it becuase he bought just the system itself and no cords, games, or even controller! Then he never played it. I traded him Super Mario Strikers, Marvel Nemesis, a Harry Potter Quiddituch Game that I never played, and a controller for Gamecube for his Sega Dreamcast, Third Party Controller and Third Party VMU, Crazy Taxi 1 and 2, and all of the the cords. It was a great deal as all the games I traded him I never played and I have 5 GC Controllers! But I love the system and it was the best system of last generation in my opinion! Of course I only have 3 games for the system.... I hate that part! I actually just got the third game today and that was Ready 2 Rumble Boxing! Also I'm upset that nobody is mentioning that Sega Genesis turns 20 this year! I actually just got a Genesis today by the way, no cords though (AC or RCA)
But people the Genesis turns 20, thats big!
