I wish I could play Half Life 2 with Wiimote controls, and with the crowbar mapped to a quick swipe of your arm (RE4:Wii style). Headcrabs would be much less annoying if I didn't have to switch weapons just in order to bat them with the crowbar, then switch again to resume whatever firefight I'm engaged in.
(That's not to say that it would even make sense with the Wii's general hardware capabilities, I'm just bitchin' about controls).
Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense. Wii FC: 8378 9716 1696 8633 || "How can mushrooms give you extra life? Get the green ones." -
Mario 64, Zelda OoT, Half Life. Those are my three all time faves, and probably always will be. I absolutely adore the Half-Life series. I played it upon launch and it was a revelation back then. Run, Think, Shoot! <3
I'm actually planning another marathon run-through (HL-OF-BS-HL2-LC-E1-E2) sometime soon, if and when I find a gap in all the other games I want to play. D:
Portal 2 was good news, but I was actually hoping they would incorporate the gun and story into Half Life 3, if there is such a thing. Episode 3 seems like a myth now, my Steam account has been waiting for a loooong time. :/
edit: I must mention CS1.6 and CSS whilst I'm here. I have lost months of my life to those two beauties. And Day of Defeat. Valve Rock!
it just feels like I woke up in someone else's body in the middle of the freakin' holocaust.
You know...that's kind of exactly what Valve was going for.
Exactly.
The thing is, Valve wants Gordon's and the player's experience to be the same. Gordon had been asleep for 20 years and didn't know anything, so therefore, the player doesn't know anything. The NPC's don't know that he had been asleep though, so they assume he knows what had happened.
I was about to argue that, despite what I mentioned above, Eli still explains the Seven Hour War and how Breen came into power, but then I remembered a major spoiler that could explain that. (No really, does this place spoiler tags?)
Any Half-Life 2 fans out there have probably seen this already, but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if they somehow haven't and I passed up an opportunity to show it to them.
A many-parts-long video commentary produced by a player of the game. Some of his insight is a bit strange, but it's well-produced, entertaining, and raises a lot of excellent points. Here's the introduction...you can navigate yourself through the rest of it from there.
Just went through Ravenholm with only the Gravity Gun. I brought Dog's ball along this time (this is my second time doing a GG run in Ravenholm). Made it more interesting. It came in handy too, zombies just can't resist it. It can pester Headcrabs to death too. After I got out, I saw that they added the red shotgun Combine. They look cool but they can just murder me. They're ruthless with those shotguns!
Wait...they updated Half-Life 2 with new enemy types? Jeez...do they have too much time on their hands or something? Make episode 3 dammit!
...also, I just finished playing through HL2 again last week. I guess now I have to do it all over again. haha
The red Combine are from Episode Two. They were also added to HL2 in the console versions of The Orange Box. The latest update basically gave us stuff the 360 version of HL2 had.
They make Combine encounters more exciting. You do NOT want them flanking you...
I just played through it on the 360 (previously I had only played on my laptop) and didn't notice anything different...but then again it's been years since I played it on the PC so I guess it just didn't register with me. Whoops. haha.
Still had a great deal of fun though. And I did a lot better during that insane standoff in Nova Prospekt, which took me many tries on the PC.
Ha, that would be cool, but people might get annoyed with me faffing all the time. Also, I'm a bit of a perfectionist and if I don't get an area just right, I will restart it. I could use Fraps though, that's a bit more realistic, then record some commentary over the top afterward. Gosh, what an idea, the internet is crying out for such a thing. I'll do it!
Machu: I would genuinely, honestly love to see you do a commentary on your playthrough of HL, even if it's just selected areas. That would be excellent in so many ways.
Of course, I'd also like to see you do one for Little King's Story...but that's another topic altogether.
