I just noticed that Atelier Ayesha is due for release in March.
There's my game of the year.
Anyone else like GUST?

That's almost a Haiku.

I personally only like Atelier Iris, though I've yet to play Mana Khemia. Ayesha, from the scant info I found of it, does look miles better than Rorona at least. If it comes to NA, I guess I'll see if that makes enough of a difference.

Ayesha belongs to a new series so I assume GUST has taken the opportunity to come up with some new ideas.

Heck, the Arland trilogy steadily improved through its three games. Rorona was a bit raw, but Totori resolved 90 per cent of those faults, and Meruru was faultless (and added substantially to the formula to boot).

I might just play the trilogy through again to prepare myself for Ayesha.

Let's remind ourselves here. GUST is 12 programmers. These guys produce incredible quality for a team smaller than most iPhone developers.

My response is a haiku.

Not surprising. They don't make games on Nintendo platforms.

If you like JRPGs though you kinda owe it to yourself to check GUST out.

I actually have Totori, but Rorona was so bad, I'm not sure "90% improved" would be enough to make it enjoyable. I've been meaning to grab Meruru, but I want a decent price for it. I bought the other games for around $25 each, and I still don't feel like I got my money's worth...

Can we stop with the Haiku's? That got silly before I even posted the thread.

You need a PS3 for most of the GUST games. If you've got a Vita, Atelier Totori is being ported over for release later this year.

Nah, don't pick up Meruru. If you think that Rorona is a genuinely bad game, than the sequels aren't going to change that perspective. The basic game remains the same, and it would seem you have a problem with that. So, yeah. Different tastes and all that.

Hmmm. I've considered getting a cheap 360, but I'm not sure about a PS3. Untitled

Do you like JRPGs? You're getting the wrong console if you get an Xbox 360 (or Nintendo console, for that matter). The PS3 is where it is at for JRPGs - not just GUST (though GUST is my favourite)

I can't say that I've dealt extinsively with the JRPG genre, but I'm open to trying new things from time to time. I will keep your advice in consideration. Thank you. :)

Speak of the devil...

Lots of stuff coming in March. I won't be able to pick it up day one, since two other games I want really want are coming within a few weeks of it, but I'm still looking forward to picking it up some time in the summer.

Interestingly it looks like NISA is finally transitioning publishing of GUST games to Tecmo Koei - journalists are being directed to contact TK for this game for the first time.

Kinda sad, NISA really looked after this franchise. Though I'm sure TK will do a great job as well. After all, GUST belongs to them :P

Yeah, I noticed that, too. Also of note, there's some conflict about whether or not the European version will be dual-audio. The US version definitely will be, though.

If the European version is Japan-audio only I'm happy. If it's dubbed, I'm not.

I think TK learned its lesson when it featured an English-only voice track with Dynasty Warriors 7. Fans pressured it into releasing the Japan voice track as a free DLC (2GB download, from memory).

I've never owned an Atelier game but I love the art... I have a picture from Totori as my wallpaper.
I'm so interested in GUST's games, though, I might get some for the PS2.

I can't think of a studio that produces game art that I like more than GUST.

Not just Atelier games either (though I have two art books from that series). There's also Ar tonelico - another neat JRPG series.

Oh, right Ar Tonelico was Gust as well. I liked the first game well enough. Never played the second, but it kinda became stupid with the innuendo from what I've seen. Third game went completely off the deep end, though.
