What are games that recived average to poor reviews, but you actually enjoyed? Personaly, I feel The Legend of Korra is a solid action game despite IGN's 4.3 rating (Who even listens to those clowns anymore?). And despite it being the Wii's most disapointing launch title, I actually liked Red Steel as a first person shooter. Yes it's sword fighting was not even close to what Ubisoft hyped it up to be, and was pretty crap. But it was a decently fun, albeit flawed Shooter.
Red Steel was disappointing? Never knew...
I actually enjoyed the demo of Sonic Boom, amidst its glitches and frame rate dips. I don't think I'll be buying the full game, though.
I also enjoyed Mario and Sonic and the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics - maybe because I haven't played the previous installments. The game has serious lack of content, though.
The only game that I really like that got rated low was Rune Factory: Oceans for PS3. Was given 55/100 on MetaCritic, but I've played it for over 80 hours now.
Funnily enough, the Wii version of the game, which is identical, except the PS3 version has enhanced graphics, got 78/100 on MetaCritic. But I guess that's because people who review Nintendo games are more open to the HM/RF series, and PS3 reviewers weren't into this kind of game.
Commando : Steel Disaster (DSiware) its a pretty good Metal Slug clone.
Under Defeat HD (No universe Sine Mora should be rated higher than it).
Magical Drop V (Looks like when it was reviewed it was completely broken but it certainly wasn't when I played it as far as I am concerned it is perfect now (Other than finding people online due to the aforementioned reviews)).
@TheMisterManGuy I agree about Korra, it was solid. I think the reason it was received so very poorly is two-part:
First, it's most likely the last Korra game we'll see for quite some time, if not ever, and parts of the show, like the story, the evolving characters, their friendship and the humor were basically totally absent from the game. If it was indeed the last Korra game there is, no game will ever have captured the series as a whole remotely successfully.
Second, the game was made by Platinum Games, and thus expectations were high, maybe unreasonably so for a licensed download-only game. While PG, as always, delivered excellent combat mechanics, the rest fell short unfortunately. That is probably especially egregious because Bayonetta 2 really proved once and for all that PG can do a solid story, with great, witty and entertaining writing, that would have been more than fitting for Korra (and her mostly absent friends) as well.
I though Korra was fun to play for a while and the price was justified, but it was not representative of what KORRA as show was all about and it was also certainly not representative of what PG is capable of, and could have done, given enough time and ressources. That's why I understand the way the ratings turned out, and the about 55% range it's sitting at on Metacritic seems roughly fair to me. The game comes without any special recommendation to Korra fans in general, but to PG fans ....
Sonic Lost World. It wasn't perfect, but I at least had fun with it. I actually remember people calling it one of the worst games of the 2013...really? There were no games worse than it? Also, Yoshi's Island and Zelda stages. Yes. So much yes.
There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

Flower, Sun and Rain. I thought it was one of the best adventures on the DS (which says a lot because the DS is overloaded with mega adventure games). I really liked it. Then I read the reviews and critics didn't get it at all.
Also, ICO Soccer on DS. I might be biased because it's an italian game, but it's really really innovative. This is a football game where you control your players by drawing their path with the stylus, and touch icons to make them shoot, pass or dribble. I have never played a football game like it, so just that deserves praise. It's a low budget product, but it has all the bells and whistles you expect from a game that tries to recreate the vibe of the late 80s football masterpieces (including the funny unlicenced names we came to love - who doesn't remember Maldonado or Bautista?!). This game has been destroyed by people who didn't get it wasn't an attempt at duplicating the PES Wii cursor system on DS (it's very different actually) and because it has ICO in the title (comes from ICOns, not from ICO the Sony game).
Also Subbuteo on DS, from the same italian developers. It's Subbuteo on the DS and it's functional. I don't need to say anything else.
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

The only one I can think of is Guilty Gear: Dust Strikers for NDS. A very poor attempt at shoehorning platforms into a 2D fighter, and a terrible game in general, yet I find myself playing it more often than I'd like to admit.
Marvel Avengers:Battle for Earth... Fun to play with a partner, otherwise a chore. Graphics aren't so hot. Simplistic controls. Short experience. They all don't sound great, but something about grinding through a game with friends yelling incomprehensible commands at each other, somehow makes this fun, in a party game sense. plus it's Marvel, who ain't into kicking butt as your favorite Avenger? NB: don't spend full price on it, for the reasons stated earlier...
Well, its Sword fighting controls did have a lot of potential. But the games' rushed development and Ubisoft's lack of understanding with the Wiimote at the time prevented those realistic sword fights they promised us. Which is what caused it to get the reviews it got. But I though the gun controls worked pretty fine, even if the gameplay was fairly unpolished, and as a first person shooter, it wasn't that bad of a game.
Also Gamespot, N64 and Ps1 are the same generation, you morons...
hated is a strong word though, because game critics have never consistently hated a game with any real value AFAIK
True. I can't think of any game that drew a lot of criticism that wasn't mostly warranted. Of course, there are still games I enjoyed even though they were bad. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a flawed game, so long as you accept said flaws. I like Sonic Adventure, Shadow the Hedgehog, a couple mediocre licensed games, and crap like Phantasy Star II and Dragon Warrior (NES) are games that clearly go against my definition of a good game, but I'm still able glean some enjoyment from.
