If I were a game director, my team would be working on 8-bit-style graphics 80% of the time. The other 20% would be 16-bit.
Of course, that's one hypothetical team out of a whole hypothetical company. And of course, this is catering to my own personal tastes. And only a portion, I enjoy 3D games too, like Zelda: Wind Waker, or No More Heroes to name a couple.

I agree. Too many gamers are obbsesed with 3-D, FPSs, graphics, and violence. Another thing is if it has online or not. Made up quote time!:"Man, this game is fun! But it's not in 3-D, isn't violent, the graphics suck, and it's not an FPS. And no online. This game sucks!"I read reviews, just to see if the game is decent. Just so I don't waste my money on Ninjabread Man. (Almost did) The reason that there aren't as many "good games on Wii" according to reviews, is because of Conspiaracy Entertainment, ports, tacked on motion controls, and minigame collections. Sure, there are good minigames and ports, but still. And people say that just because it looks kiddy, is instally sucks. Look at some of the best games on Wii. They're not mindless gore fests, they look like they're aimed at kids. Speaking of kids, many kids play games that are so Mature, there is a law about it. Back at elementary school, a bunch of the kids were playing Halo, GTA, and Gears of War! Ugh, todays youth are poisoned by these games.EDIT: and on the Pixar disscoussion, who loves Up?

i am one of those 14 soon to be 15 year olds who prefer the old games than most of the newer ones! I never grew up with NES or SNES, but grew up playing N64! When i went online, i started to find out about the older games. im a sucker for mario games, so one day while browsing through a gamefly, or some gameshop not gamestop or EB, i saw a little title called mario rpg! i went online and read about it and began to love it! i wanted to play that bitch so bad! so when the wii came out and i heard about the VC, i almost died! i was like, finally i get to play all those great games i never got a chance to play! i bought alot of classics, like ocarina and DCK 1 and 2! but when mario rpg came on vc, i butchered my parents to let me used the credit card to get 1000 points just to get that game! same with majoras mask! i used to play roms, and decided to try that game out! i LOVED IT! and really wanted it on my wii for better controls and all, but it wasnt on vc! i thought of hacking the wii, but right when that thought came to mind, Majoras Mask was on VC!! All im saying is that between halo and mario bros 3, between MGS4 and ocarina of time, id prefer mario 3 and ocarina! and now adays games dont hold all the memories that the past games held! Just sayin...

oh and this has nothing to do with this topic, but i see more kids with psps than with DS's
65. Posted: Sat 22nd Aug 2009 00:13 BST
@BB_Thrilla Same with me. Most of my friends have DSs, but a lot of the kids at my school are just like, "Man PSP rocks! DS suck because of it graphics." Then they go and look up the new Action Replay online while looking at... things that they should not see.

2D games take the most skill. You should have hit your friend in the face, dude. Next time you see him, give him a go at mega man 1. That'll prove a point. And if he's still stubborn, then there's no hope for him.

I'm sure this thread is an interesting read but I'm too shallow too bother. I'm shallow about a lot of things, but games is not one of them.
69. Posted: Sat 22nd Aug 2009 15:00 BST
This thread does remind me of one thing, though. The really old school gamers are quickly becoming the most annoying group of gamers ever. They complain about how games today aren't made with them in mind and how those who play FPS titles aren't "real" gamers because they don't play other genres or only play Halo and Madden. WHO. GIVES. A. F*CK. If that's what they like, good for them. Looking down your nose at them just makes you an enormous prick.

I made him try a level of Ninja Gaiden for the NES... He failed miserably but was still stubborn.

@Javet Yeah, 2-D takes more skill. I've beaten 64 DS about 10 times, but I haven't beaten Super Mario Bros. (without cheats)

I've been stuck on Ninja Gaiden, Act 6 for 6 months.I can't beat the second level of Cybernator.I can't beat world 4 on SMB 3.
I'm bad at 2D games, but I absolutely love them.

For real you have a point there, u put it more harshly and bluntly than i would have but i agree, everyone is entitled to their own choice of what games are good to them and what are not, saying the games some people play (particularly fps') makes them a bad gamer or a fake is really stupid, well said.

2D hardcore gamers cant complain too much. Just recently you have Retro Game Challenge, MFC, Bionic Commando Rearmed(patched), Nyxquest, Legend of Kage 2 release and soon to get Muramasa. Im pretty happy. Not to mention the Bionic Commando upgrade to 3D is awesome as well.

True, true, slapshot82.But while 3D gams are being pumped out constantly, 2D gamers get about 10 a year. (I still love 3D so don't get the wrong idea.)

@Javet.... dude dont get me wrong. Im 27 and game fueled by 2D hardcore NES games to the bone. Ninja Gaiden NES is the best game EVER in my personal opinion. Classic hardcore (real hardcore) 2D gaming to the little microchips inside the cartridge. I love the 3D games but nothing will ever compare to the oldschool 2D games. New system have better AI and the hardware limitation have increased so drastically that it makes most newer hardcore 2D games nearly impossible to play. Instead of learning patterns the patterns change faster than you can think and it becomes more luck than skill. Contra 4 landed in this realm. Its good and great and all but its nowhere near the NES/SNES games. But heck take what you can get. AND there is always Bionic Commando Rearmed and Mega Man 9!!!

I totally agree. We need to stop bing so melodramatic here. Sure it's a shame that some people don't appreciate 2D games, but why the hell should you care? Think of all the fun games you could be playing while you waste your time ranting about things that don't affect you instead.
78. Posted: Thu 27th Aug 2009 00:26 BST
@slapshot82(I tried Mega Man 9... WAY too hard. And I only have a Wii so sadly no BCR)
I get what you're trying to say. But take Shadow Complex. I am very much hoping that this game brings back 2D and at the VERY LEAST, 2.5D.

Old games could suck, just like new ones - I don't so much like 2D as the nostalgia involved in Retro. I also think taste in genre and art style is pretty subjective, I really liked Dead Rising as I like Romero's Zombie movies. I liked the derivative sci-fi cheesiness of The Conduit. Unless something is fundamentally broken, control or graphics wise, there is usually something to enjoy throughout the entire history of video games...

You make a good point, Ristar. But there are so many fantastic games. I'm not saying 3D gams suck. I'm just saying that it's sad that 2D is being abandoned by most developers.
