I recently found a guy online called the Game Overthinker (Also known as MovieBob on the escapist), and I was wondering if anyone actually agrees with what he says. Granted you don't have to agree with him on everything, but he does has some very good points to make about companies like Sony, the FPS genre, modern franchises vs. retro franchises, and overall just gaming issues that most people don't really think about that often. Does anyone here on the site agree with him about his views, or is open to debate about the issues, or just to start talking about the entire state of video games currently. All he wants is for people to start talking, so why not start?
1) In one video, he talks about how people are saying that for frachises that never inovate and constantly release the same game ever single year (Madden, NBA, etc.) are much worse than franchises that do retro games (like Mega Man 9/10) because of the fact that each new Madden game can simply not exist because all of the new stuff added each year can simply be done through DLC.
2) He talks about some complaints he has with Nintendo, some minor, but some flaws, like how the Nintendo Seal of Approval doesn't carry as much weight as it did in the 90's because of the constant stream of horrible shovelware released on the wii, along with all of the unnecesary hate from Xbox 360 gamers and FPS fans about how the Wii isn't hardcore due to it's kiddie games (True story, I actually got into a debate with a very smart person who said that Nintendo can never be considered hardcore because his definition is that a hardcore game is a game with a huge fanbase and strong online network)
3) He talks about the history and inspiration behind Mega Man and his links to Leonardo Da Vinci, Mr. Tezuka (creator of Astro Boy), and the Golem from Hebrew Lore.
FF6: Release year- 1994 Kefka's birthday - November 9th So.... my life is practically mirroring Kefka? Cool.
I just watched the Overthinker's "Worst Person" episode, where he basically describes the FPS as video game industry poison. I've got to say that, while he ignores points that don't line up with his personal opinion, he has some good ideas and, more importantly, he's got something to say. At least he calls it how he sees it. I actually agreed with a fair amount of his rant.
alright alright. I know I just gave the Overthinker some props, but his rant about Halo's Covenant being representative of our ingrained fear of cultural mixing was definitely over the top... to say the least. I think the term is "reaching."
This guy reminds me of that annoying English professor that over-analyzed a book to such a horrible extent, that he drew conclusions I swear the author never intended.

Heh. I was an English major in college so i had plenty of this, as it is a standard method of literary analysis. My Shakespeare class was taught by an angry feminist, so you can only imagine what insanity those classes involved. =)

You mean...every English professor...?

I'm going back and forth on whether I like this guy. He's definitely got a heavy handed self righteous vibe, which is annoying for sure. But! He has a pretty compelling video (again, self righteous no doubt) about Gamestop and their trade-in business model. I highly recommend it, just for awareness on the issue. His call for consumer revolution is a bit much.
I kind of like the Game Overthinker. I enjoy listening to his opinion even if I don't agree with it. He certainly overthinks things, but I also enjoy that. On the other hand, the game underthinker is amazing! Nobody could have captured my feeling of Pac-Man so well!
