Topic: game addiction anyone?

So I'll confess and say that I love playing games and its one of the hobbies that I do. So today I left early from gym just to do that speed run in pirate's curse and that odd because I've already beaten the game. So I'm worried if games will make me addicted to my other routines like how its gonna be when I finally get a job.

If game addiction has made your life miserable, post it all here like what genre addicts you, how can you control one particular objective? How did you deal with such addiction etc.

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

Hello I'm munchakoopas and I HAD a problem. Skyrim and MH3U nearly ruined my life. The way I broke these addictions was when I spotted the Game time that is recorded. Skyrim showed 180 hours. and MH3U showed 250Hrs. MH3U addiction was harder to break because i refused to believe I played that many hours. I've been Skyrim sober for 2 years now. MH3U sober for 4 months now.

I'm addicted less to actual gaming per se, but more to gaming media - i.e. when I should be working I surf the web pouring over reviews for older (e.g. Wii, Gamecube) games, as well as hype pieces and forums to discuss new games. I barely actually post anything constructive myself, just read other people's opinions mostly.

This has resulted in me spending more on Wii U gaming than I ever have on any other gaming device in the past.
Part of the reason for that though is that if pirate copies are available I do like to try before I buy, but it's also because I'm a parent of young children so don't leave the house much. Wii U is great to fill my time and also to build a library of games that hopefully the whole family will play together in a few years time (might need to leave Bayonetta an extra coupla years tho).

Having said that, articles and forums are easier to do inconspicuously. If I could game knowing I'd get away with it, I would. I've lost many 'working' hours in the past to games, particularly FIFA 13 (Wii U), GTA4 (PC) and F1.

And just for the record, I should be working right now.

JaxonH

My name is Jaxon and I'm a Monster Hunter addict.

[group collectively greets me] "Hi Jaxon".

Yes, I've got a serious addiction to Monster Hunter. Well, many games get me hooked, but MH has always been the worst. Last summer when I started playing MH3U, it got to the point I was calling in to work and my co-worker too, and we'd just sit home and play Monster Hunter together online all day. I'd stay up late, all night sometimes, trying to make a certain armor set or weapon. After 600 hours I was finally able to pull away.

Well, the new dope is in town and it's fire. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is every bit addictive as its predecessor, but this time it's mobile (last time I played on Wii U) so I find myself bringing my 3DS to work every day, playing games in the metrology lab. In fact, I have it with me now, at work. Just waiting for my boss to leave so I can hunt some monsters

Pretty much, this is me. Still, that's not really a bad thing, considering talking about them is not the sole reason I don't get as much playtime. I've just got a busy schedule, I enjoy the companionship of NLife members, & I like helping out people w/ console/game problems, where, & when I can.

definetly not addicted. but i once felt that you can get addicted to mmorpgs very easily. i played flyff for a few years (with breaks) and the last time i played it i played all day and night long. one time my mom came into my room at around 5am in the morning. that's when she had to go to work that time and i was playing that stupid game
i quit the game a few weeks after that i think and never touched it since.

If you are seriously worried about game (or any other addiction for that matter) ruining your life, I suggest talking to your doctor. They can probably give you suggestions on how to overcome this addiction.

SkywardLink98

Hello everyone, I'm SkywardLink98 and I'm addicted to Guild Wars 2. I have 3 max level characters, and have spent over 800 hours in game since November 2012. I've "quit" playing before, but whenever I do, a new time-limited item appears and I reinstall and grind away until I obtain the item. I've got my playing down to a science, and I typically log in for about 10 minutes per day know, a far cry from multiple hours a day back in late 2012-early 2013. My problem now, is I don't want to stop playing. There's a new expansion hitting later this year, and I want to finish up my current objectives before getting my fourth maximum level character in the form of a Revenant.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Not addicted to playing, but am to buying, I weep at the number of games I've bought but barely played over the years because of not considering my free time properly.

DAMN STEAM!

I would be addicted if my significant other enjoyed games as much as I did. Alas that isn't the case.

I'm addicted to gaming culture. I refresh gaming websites many times every day, just to keep up with the latest news and release dates. Which is funny, because I really only play video games on the weekends, and even then, I don't play for long, unless I have a new game to play. I feel like the "addiction" for me comes in, once I get a new game. I play that game religiously, all the way until completion. Then I'm done and sober, until I buy another game.

Check out my YouTube channel if you love gaming, and Nintendo (especially Metroid) I think you'll enjoy my videos. :)

I do a similar thing. I search gaming news more than I actually play

I'm the one to get addictive to every new game I get and stop playing it for a mouth or maybe a year. I'm currently doing that with Majora's Mask (I already had the game on my Wii for about 3 years, but I haven't touch it every since I bought it) and I keep telling myself I'm going to play it later, but I never get to it. I wish I could stop myself from doing that.

I used to buy a bunch of games that I never played, but a lot of them are high score type games. Those are the hardest type of games to get addicted to. I was in the top 15 when Nano Assault Neo came out, though, and I was "addicted" to Resident Evil 4 mercenary mode for like 2 years. No one had as high of a score as I did, as far I knew, even based off of YouTube. YouTube was still new, though.
