Hey there guys. Today I want to introduce a fantastic indie game that didn't get enough attention if you ask me. Its name it's Freedom Planet, is a platformer that is pratically what Sonic games of the latest years should have been. Here's a trailer:
It has 3 playable characters, 4 levels of difficulty, and two modes to play (Adventure that shows the plot of the game with cutscenes between the stages, and Classic, if you don't care about the story and want simply play the game). The designs of the stages are gorgeous and the soundtrack is amazing. It has even achievments to get to complete it at 100%. Just one thing: I ask you to not bashing it and calling it a "bad Sonic clone" (it's pratically the only negative thing I hear about it on the web....), if you want to try it before you decide to buy it, here ya go:
Here you'll find a demo, to at least try it before judging it. It's currently on sale on Steam so I thought this was a perfect moment to publicize it a bit. That is all. See ya!
I remember this, I played the demo at SAGE(Sonic Amateur Game Expo) years back, I think I enjoyed it.
I have yet to have yet to buy the official game yet, I lost the demo when the hard drive died.
I hooked my Wii U up to my CRT TV (1990 Sony Trinitron 7") and holy crap this game looks gorgeous on it even if the aspect has to be squished (I keep settings 16:9 and resize screen).
If you have a CRT try this game out on it, all the gradients and hash patterns and texture art and pixel edges just blend fantastically
I love this game. One of the best indies in years. I'd put it right behind Shovel Knight as the cream of the crop.
Just played through it at the same time I'm playing through Sonic 2. Really not sure which is better. I'd maybe give it to Sonic 2 marginally, but I think Freedom Planet is probably better than all the other Sonic games (although I can't remember how good Sonic 3 is)
I started and beat this game with Lilac today. Absolutely fantastic game. It definitely has the best boss battles of 2015 for me. The level design is also really nuanced and challenging. The voice acting and story are a bit weak, but luckily for me those things don't influence my enjoyment of a game whatsoever. GalaxyTrail have definitely made a fan of me; I can't wait to see what they have in store for us next, especially if it's a Freedom Planet 2.
I reproach the developers for writing a story that is ridiculously dramatic with decapitations and torture included. At the end of the day, it's a game that copies Mega Drive games Sonic and Ristar and I was expecting a nicer tone. However, I enjoyed the gameplay, the level design is good and the music is absolutely wonderful. You can play skipping the story completely so this is a solid recommendation. Available on PC, Wii U, PS4 and Switch.
