Final Fantasy V is already perfect, so I don't know what else they can do with it that would be of any positive benefit. I honestly wouldn't be phased if we missed out on a remake.

@Hokori
I'm not sure which is more painful for me. When a game I've wanted for AGES winds up staying in Japan-only, or when it's on a format I don't have/don't like. The old school 2D Final Fantasies are my favorite, and it HURTS to know that there is going to be such a focus on iOS (bleeping touch screen-only controls...) and no word of other platforms. I'm cursed as far as Final Fantasy V goes. Waited 7 years to see it come to America. Then, the PlayStation version was PAINFUL to play with load times and save glitch. FF V Advance made up for that. But, now, there's a release actually receiving hype that the (IMO) best game of the series deserves, and it's so far only on iOS. BLEEP ! Then, there was my almost perfect playthrough, where I got all items... except the Judgement Staff I somehow forgot to steal... I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE MISSABLES (sorry, had a Kefka moment Kefka Laugh )!

@CanisWolfred
I'd actually be happy with only a WELL translated Super NES version on Wii/Wii U VC, though I am curious what a FF III/FF IV DS-style remake would look like.

More on subject, I've been playing through FFs celebrating the 25th Anniversary. Being my first-ever Final Fantasy, I started with IV and am working my way up. Finished it, FF IV: The After Years (WiiWare), FF V, and am in the World of Ruin on FF VI. Um, "SOLDIER 1st Class" Cloud & Co. are next.

How in the heck is a menu based turn based RPG hindered by touch only controls? Victory in no way depends on how quick or responsive controls are in these kinds of games, so I never understood the sentiments against these games being on iOS.

This is the "hardcore" genré (if you want to use such terminology), that formats to mobile the most flawlessly, IMO (Chaos Rings for example, is one of my favorite JRPG's, and it felt like a fully fledged game with no concessions).

Yeah, RPGs and Strategy games play just fine on touch-only devices. It's just that some people have to hate iOS, rather than embrace it and realise it's actually a good gaming platform, and the touch screen controls thing is the only reason they've got left to trick their brains into hating the games.

The FFIV remake on iOS looks great on the iPad. I've got a sneaking suspicion that there will be a steady stream of releases on iOS right up to the end of the PSOne games moving forward. SE is throwing a lot of energy into iOS.

Nothing to do with hating iOS or touch screens. It's just my preference to play with real, precision physical controllers. And it can make a difference if you're in a heated boss battle and the touch screen registers a wrong command. Not starting a debate, it's just my preference to play on a system with controls I find to be easier to manipulate and are IMO more responsive than a flat surface. Does anybody want to be facing Omega or Shinryu, and have the touch screen mess up? Not I. That's called "game over."

I just think game makers should present more format choices instead of pushing them into an "accept this, or be left behind" scenario.

You can get FFIV on DS already dude :-/

I've never registered a wrong command in an RPG on my iPad. It's a practice thing. Developers are going to continue to focus on the market leader - it is thier best opportunity. So I suggest you get practicing.

CanisWolfred

@Fluttershyguy That's kind of what he's talking about. Stuff like that is no more likely with touch controls. The only problem with touch controls is with movement, which can occasionally lead to problems, but that can be worked around, both on the developer's and the user's side, if the effort is put in it.

I think I've used the Pokemon touch screen as an example, but again, I hated it when I used the touch screen, even to just pick an attack, so IDK to each there own.... I guess.... Heck I tried and hated it in Denpa Men as well

You've also got to consider the fact that those titles were both developed for systems that have physical input as their primary control method.

Unless a DS/3DS game is made with the intended purpose of trying to utilize the touch controls to their fullest (such as the superb Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword), they're either going to feel tacked on, or in the very least, less useful than the physical input.

In a situation where developers have to make the most out of touch (such as in mobile), those touch controls are probably going to feel more fleshed out than the touch in a DS/3DS game.

Well I know that even if I tried an RPG on my iPad and said I hated it I'd get backlash..... Opinions don't matter on 2012, or at least mine (I've been told that on here)

If you just say you hated it and didn't elaborate, yeah. Because no one would believe you of all people would give an iPad game the time of day. If you could actually prove you did give it an honest shot, though, I think people would be impressed.

What is an honest shot? For SFIV, MM2, Ghost n Goblins I didn't like how slippery the "joystick" was.

You can't use a dodgy emulation to prove anything. That would be like saying physical controls suck because Ninjabread Man sucks.

Then it's his problem, not the game's.

^exactly it's that I hate touch controls period for RPGs

Eh to be honest I liked the PSP FFIV remake better than the DS'. I wish they had ported that one.
Oh well, it's not like I plan to buy FFIV a 6th time anyway.

FFV, however I never played before, I wonder how that will be.

Bloop.
