Not to be shadowed by Megaman's anniversary today is also the anniversary of Final Fantasy being released on the NES. As some of you might know Squaresoft (now Square Enix) was just about to leave the video game world after several failures like Rad Racer II when they were asked to try to make one more game that game was Final Fantasy. What Square didnt know is that game will go on to save them and become one of video games beloved franchises. Without the first game we wouldn't have saved a ruin world from a crazed god, or seen one of the most tear jerking deaths in a video game or heard some of the best musical scores to come out of a video game.

Each and everyone of you have a favorite in the series for alot is the one that made Final Fantasy main streamed to many Final Fantasy 7, to others it was the final one on the SNES Final Fantasy VI (or III as it is known on SNES). But which ever one is your favorite lets take a moment and raise our glasses to the first one in honor of and share some stories of why we like this great series and what we plan to do if anything to honor this occasion.

So many hours and moneyz have been wasted on Final Fantasy ever since I played the first two games on my GBA

Today's their anniversary? Cool. Happy Birthday FF!
I really hope they remake VI for the 3DS. That would be so randomly awesome.

Well FF7 has been rumoured to coming to steam for a while now if it does I'll definitely be playing that, was the first FF game I ever played and the reason I bought a PS1 in the first place, the sooner it comes to steam the better.

The first FF game I played was the first one. I remember getting the strategy guide from Nintendo Power and just reading that thing over and over and over. When I finally got the game a few months later for my birthday I pretty much had the strategy guide memorized lol. My favorite of course would be VI. After VII I just couldn't get into the series again and I have tried several times.

Rad Racer II was made three years after Final Fantasy. Though the first game was made the same year. Wasn't the first game (made the same year as FF1) actually a comparatively successful game?
3D World Runner was also pretty good. But then again, both games were largely inspired by two popular Sega arcade games.
I'd guess FF was probably the first good original work they made. Before that, they were releasing games like King's Knight and Mystery Quest. (Deep Dungeon could've been a good game, but it was based WAY too much on random luck.)

I pretty much lost interest in FF for the most part after FFX not that it was bad exactly, in fact I liked quite a bit about it and was certainly a hell of a lot better than FF8 imo that one was just awful, but I just felt like the series best days where starting to look behind them by then, plenty other JRPG games out there though with xenoblade in particular helping fill that void.

After Tecmo Koei, Square Enix is my favourite publisher/ developer out there. I have been playing Final Fantasy games since I was a kid, and I am consistently blown away by them.

Square Enix also publisher Nier, my outright favourite JRPG of all time (except perhaps Atelier Meruru by Tecmo Koei).

For Christmas my wife is buying me the Japan-only limited collectors edition that contains every Final Fantasy game. I already have them all, but this is to collect, not play with

Meh... I've never been able to get into FF... braces for rage

One of my favorite series of all time. Too Bad Square has run the franchise into the ground. I forgot that 13-2 even came out this year. The tech demo from E3 got me pretty excited l.

13-2 was a great game. It was everything that people ask for in Final Fantasy games.

Their expectations must have been low

People complained that FFXIII was too linear. Square Enix made 2 open. People complained that FFXIII didn't have towns. Square Enix put towns in 2. It goes on and on.

And of course people complained about FFXIII-2. I won't even call them fans, because they're just that pretend kind of fan that like a game (with SE, Final Fantasy VII) and then expect a company to bankrupt itself making the same game over and over again just for their benefit.

13-2 could easily be a good game but the final fantasy series barring the music game. Between sub par games, long development cycles, and no word on localizing the quality games (braverly default and type-0)

Type-0 blows chunks. A chocobo is killed, bloodily.

The Final Fantasy series was never about being that kind of mature, but indeed that's what this one is (I've played the Japanese game).

shingi_70

nahh Bray its not about making the same game over and over again. I'm just not into the side hyphen games.

its funny you say they don't. want to bankrupt the company when yhr development of VXIII and the first tun of 14 almost did.

FFX was my first FF, & to this day remains my favorite in the series (although I haven't played many others). Although I must give credit to Kingdom Hearts for sparking my interest in the series.

Anyhow, at the time I played it, FFX seemed to be the biggest & deepest game I've ever played, & it showed me a new way of looking at games (although KH also helped in that). Coincidentally, I just started watching a playthrough of FFX on YouTube a few days ago (as I don't have the game anymore). Hope it gets ported to 3DS one of these days.

Happy 25th FF!

It was a great RPG series that I got tons of hours of enjoyment out of in the past. Now I can only say Happy 25th FF, sorry that I'm not interested in you anymore .

Personally, I enjoyed every FF game for one reason or another, though FF6 I only liked for the music. But seriously, It's a great series, and I always look forward to seeing what new directions it takes. I already celebrated this year by playing through FF3 (DS), FFXIII-2, and of course the original Final Fantasy on the PSP, which I must say, it's quite a classic (even if the PSP version is way, way too easy). So happy 25th Anniversary, Final Fantasy, and may you have 25 more!

In a trailer for Final Fantasy IV just released on iOS (looks like DS FF IV), it says at the end: "The FINAL FANTASY mobile revolution begins... FINAL FANTASY V. and more." So, obviously you're talking about VI, and who knows what else. Since they made such a big deal out of FF V, I'm guessing it may be the remake we fans have waited ages for. I'd like to be excited, but I'm not. I don't like touch screen-only gaming. With the release of FF: Dimensions, and now this along with all the glut of other SquareEnix iOS releases, is this the beginning of gamers being forced to embrace Final Fantasy (except big new releases like Lightning Returns) on iOS lest they be left behind? Or do you all think we'll eventually see the likes of this possible FF V remake and Dimensions on 3DS and/or Vita?
