wow... I take back some of what I said - those aren't nearly as MK-ey looking as I expected.

Does it play like that MK vs. DC Heroes game? I didn't like the button-mashy stuff (falling over the edge of a map / spamming buttons, etc.)

No it plays like... well Injustice.... lol. MK vs DC was a different butter.

I suggest maybe trying out Street Fighter X Tekken. I dont remember if it was an option in the option screen or a gem (items that you can equip to your character to very playstyle. For example one gem always makes you autoblock) but it allows you to do one button moves like pressing --> and punch for a fireball. I loaned my copy to a co worker and like me he has been playing fighting games since the days of SF II in the arcade. His buddy not so much and was having a hard time keeping up with my co worker until he used that option (My co workers friend is a pro at Smash Bros though). Might want to look into that game its about $20 new now.

I'm glad some body brought this up actually. I have been playing Injustice pretty much 24/7 since I got it last week (Because it is amazing) and I thought I'd play some Super Street Fighter IV on 3DS. Oh man SSFIV is sooo boring compared to Injustice and the MK style of gamplay. SSFIV doesn't have any combos in comparison to Injustice. Oh and the huge list of button combos is what makes it really fun. When you pull off that big move then it feels soo much better! Although I have to agree on some of them, like the Bane move where he breaks you over the back, you have to push (Down Forward Back X) and it always reads diagonal when I push the directions. Kinda annoying.

Gems are DLC though... or at least some are. Also that list of Smash Bros. like games, a lot of those aren't very good and a whole lot of them are really hard to find or are Japan exclusive.

Case in point to everyone who is uncertain about this Injustice: Gods Among Us game. It is one of the most friendly games to those who don't know how to play and it is just a great game! I have had a blast with it and I have never really been into the fighting genre before. Don't be scared by the button combos. For 1 you can still win and beat story mode, etc. without using them, 2 they really aren't that hard to pull off, and 3 just choose a character that doesn't have such a "scary" button combo list. Like @KaiserGX said Raven is a pretty good beginner character. I think Green Lantern is probably the most beginner character of them all though. So start some where like that.

Playstation All Stars Battle Royale has a similar style of play, although I'm not one much for the weird health system.

I'd also recommend Final Fantasy Dissidia if you own a PSP, as it has simpler controls, though it's not a side scroller.

MvC3 is pretty good, but I don't think the moves are that easy to do even in that game.

I find Marvel vs Capcom 3 to be one of the simpler fighting games out there at the moment.

But simple button inputs games off the top of my head are: Marvel vs Capcom 3, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Skullgirls (<-- awesome btw), and Persona 4 Arena. Hell, in P4A there's an autocombo system that lets you pull of basic combos with one button.

Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom. If you use the wiimote and nun chuck all of the moves are easy to acess.

Just don't play as Mega Man. He's the anti-masher in that game.
