So after a highly successful kickstarter they kicked up enough dirt that the fad attracted some bigger fish and then proceeded to sell out their crowd-funded property in order to make a killing.
Brilliant scheme. I am so glad I never supported this.
Okay, at first this sounds horrible, but it really isn't. For one thing, I don't think Facebook is "taking control" over the project. It's still being worked on by the same guys and I'm pretty sure they're still going to be making all of the big decisions. Another thing is actually being able to manufacture these things. Two billion dollars? That will allow them to spend MORE on the Oculus, using better parts and stuff, and they'll STILL be able to make the consumer versions even cheaper. This will allow even more people to be able to get one. And please stop saying stuff like "THEY TOOK OUR MONEY AND THEN SOLD OUT ON US WAAAH!". Perhaps you didn't notice that they were funded through a site called "Kickstarter". Where people can "kickstart" a project or a company. Two million dollars alone was not gonna cut it, and I know they had some other investors or something that gave them millions to help as well. With all this money though, Oculus will be able to be even better! In the end, I don't think this thing is going to be ruined by Facebook. How could it be ruined by Facebook? I mean, Oculus Rift just runs off of you PC, right? So it's not like Facebook can ruin some kind of OS by slapping Facebook and ads all over the place. So please stop saying things like "Well, I've officially lost all interest." because there's no reason why this makes things worse.
So what is Oculus VR? to me, it looks almost like some stupid binoculars with a headstrap
Yup. It's supposedly able to "play games" as well, but please, they're clunky wearable binoculars. :3

Now the Minecraft creator ditched the Rift version simply because he doesn't want to work with facebook. Direct quote from his blog:
"I definitely want to be a part of VR, but I will not work with Facebook. Their motives are too unclear and shifting, and they haven’t historically been a stable platform. There’s nothing about their history that makes me trust them, and that makes them seem creepy to me.
And I did not chip in ten grand to seed a first investment round to build value for a Facebook acquisition."
Am I the only one here who is actually interested in the Oculus Rift? I'm kind of surprised at how many people here didn't even seemed interested in the first place...

This was my initial thoughts but all the impressions I've heard from people who have I tried it out make it sound like the real deal. Like the type of innovation you'd want out of a Nintendo console, perhaps even moreso.
@Maelstrom Glad to know I'm not the only one on this sight interested who's interested in it.
Oh, and to anyone who's worried about Notch saying he's not going to use it in Minecraft, there are already mods for Minecraft that support the Oculus. Plus, I think he was joking around when he said that anyways.
@Maelstrom Hmm, interesting read. Especially the blog post he linked to, did you read that? Kinda creeped me out... Now I'm kind of wondering if I should wait a couple years after VR is release before trying it for myself...
@mystman12 I thinks it's cool, and, personally, I think the industry might skip over glasses-3D straight to VR
Didn't the 3DS just do that?
as for this, I'm least bothered. Facebook has been all about social media so I'm assuming they are gonna use Occulus Rift as mean of socializing and nothing else.
Why would Facebook buy Occulus Rift in the first place? Its like Nintendo buying Sega when Sega has already made mediocre games and barely listens to the fans so why would Nintendo buy Sega?

Because they could and it's all part of their master plan.

Weird... they must think this is going to be a big, important thing to invest in... :/
nope Facebook is buying things left and right lately as if the comapany's money was endless
Good then hopefully this will drive them to bankruptcy and then we will be rid of Facebook.
But then
Wed just see Google + get big or Twitter increase what it can do.
Yeah, I'd take Facebook over Google + and Twitter any day.
As for this news, it just boggles the mind. Why would they even bother? What possible need would Facebook have to invest in this? What do they expect to get out of it? Do they even care? Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a disaster, but it's incredibly stange regardless.
