Looks like a very modern top hundred list as opposed to the hundred best games of all time.

Although I haven’t played Breath of the Wild (yet), it does seem to be a reasonably divisive Zelda game; some folks love it, while others continue to prefer the traditional old fashioned template.

It’s great to see both Dark Souls and Bloodborne sitting in the top five, even though I would personally swap them around, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 > Super Mario Galaxy is 100% correct!

I don’t agree with the placement of certain games, and I have absolutely no idea what Far Cry 4 is doing on that list, but all in all, it is not all that bad. They certainly like their Nintendo and Sony output, that’s for sure.

Probably the most modern take I've seen, with a decent smattering of older titles.

I think they've gone for breadth of genres to some extent - although I've not played it, I wouldn't have thought many people would put Her Story in a Top 100.

My first changes would be to jump MK8D 20 places higher, and to get a thick black permanent marker to cross out Xenoblade Chronicles.

Not a bad modern list. Obviously I would move some items around, and IMO Galaxy 1 trumps 2 any day.

I don't understand the point of these "greatest games ever" lists. All games have strengths and weaknesses that make them excel in some areas and not others. They can call BotW "the greatest game of all time," but that doesn't change the fact that it does some things better than other games on that list, and some things worst. So how, exactly, do you go about determining which games are the "greatest" in any sort of fair manner?

This is also why I don't like rating games, which implies a hierarchy among games that doesn't necessarily exist.

Oh, and the lack of Galaxy 1 saddens me. Galaxy 2 just doesn't have the same magic.

It's not a list of games, it's a list of advertisers.

Not a single Super Mario Bros. game? - If I had three thumbs, I'd give this list three thumbs down...

Looks like it's trying too hard to grab attention with all the recent games at the top. I guess if Ocarina of Time was no.1 it wouldn't be very headline-worthy. Or maybe it's like "Hey kids, we ain't no old fuddy-duddy magazine. We're totally cool and modern and hip!"

I don't get Mario Galaxy 2 over Mario Galaxy 1, but then again, Galaxy 2 is more recent than 1 and so according to this, must be better!

Super Metroid's really low placement makes this an instant failure. Their number 1 choice is probably correct. Just narrowly dethroning Super Metroid.

A lot of that is good and would be in my top 100.

Although no Final Fantasy except 12 is pretty mental.
Can't have been a public poll. FF6, FF7 or FF9 are nearly always in the top 20 on a public poll

At least they're (mostly) consistent. The list is nearly the same, but a couple of games like Drop7 and Left 4 Dead 2 (which should probably still be on there) have been booted for some reason.

I'm rather bizarrely playing both of the top 2 at the moment.

Although it's not that bizarre that I'm playing Dark Souls because I'm nearly always playing it. I must be on my 10th playthrough or so by now and I just don't get bored of it. No idea why. Doesn't apply to the sequels. Just the first game.

@Dezzy Played through Dark Souls once (first half = absolutely astounding, second half = hit and miss), Bloodborne twice (begun the game again once The Old Hunters came out), whereas I started as four different characters in Demon’s Souls and saw each one through to the end.

I really, really hope we’ll see a Demon’s Soul remaster one of these days...

As for all these top one hundred lists, nobody is ever going to collectively agree with them.

For example, Famitsu recently did a top one hundred list whereby their readers vote for them, and it is not only incredibly Far East centric, given that there’s only a couple of western developed games in the entire top one hundred, but is also mostly made up of very recent games too.

Two Persona games, two Dragon Quest games, two Zelda games, three Final Fantasy games, all three Danganrompa games and both Shenmue games. Variety certainly isn’t the word you would choose to describe the Famistu list, whereas the one that Edge has done comparatively shows variety in abundance!

No Twilight Princess, but Kerbal Space Program is on the list... what!? No MGS, no Mario Galaxy (or Sunshine (sad face)), no DKC Tropical Freeze, no Street Fighter 2, no Pokemon games at all. It's missing quite a few games you'd expect on a top 100 list.

Feels like half the list came out in the last five years or so. It also feels like my entire PS4 library is on that list.

Super Monkeyball, Katamari, Prince of Persia, F-Zero GX, R-Type, Call of Duty 4, Xenoblade Chronicles, Outrun and Metroid Prime were all beaten by a cash grab card game. I find that depressing actually!

When you add the DLC to the first half, I'd say it becomes the first 2/3rds that are good. I'd also add New Londo, which I think is the only good area of the last lot.
Oh and I usually visit Ash Lake in the 2nd half, which is a really cool area. They really should've expanded Ash Lake for one of the Lord Souls and ditched Lost Izalith, the worst area in the game.
